John Oliver Kicks Off Daily Show Hosting With NSA: Amish Must Feel ‘Really F*cking Smart Right Now’

VIDEO here: http://www.mediaite.com/tv/john-oliver-kicks-off-daily-show-hosting-with-nsa-amish-must-feel-really-fcking-smart-right-now/

Daily Show correspondent John Oliver tonight began his three-month-long reign over The Daily Show, which he expected to be a news-free joy ride, by tearing apart the National Security Agency for its massive surveillance and data-mining. Oliver remarked that the government is monitoring “vastly more information than even George Orwell wet the bed over,” and reassured Americans, “Good news! You’re not paranoid!”

isn’t that they broke any laws, but “it’s a little bit weird that you didn't have to."

I really do not get those saying that it was bad when Bush did it because it was illegal, but it's just a-okay now when Obama does it 'cause now it's legal

what part of it's not okay either way don't some people get?

Obama is NOT doing exactly what Bush did.

Under Bush they spied on anyone that they wanted to, without a subpoena or probable cause - Bushes folks were actually 'spying'.

Under Obama the NSA has to file a request (and show probable cause) with the FISA Court and get approval each time they want to search the meta-database for specific information for each phone number.

safeguard. It is just a rubber stamp.

And the money spent on this must be incredible.

Meanwhile, the terrorists probably put two and two together years ago and completely stopped using the internet for their communication.

So what are we spending the money on and who is being watched?

I'd bet that the person whose job it is to review the requests before taking them to the Court probably doesn't file any frivolous ones.

Like I said earlier WE don't know all the details so in away it's hard to fully judge it all without all the facts.

But he had me at the opening joke and that's not the only time I LOL'd either. I think he's going to do just fine and I'll continue to tune in. He really is very funny, and can do the tone of voice that is a laugh trigger for Jon Stewart.
