Today's Tiedrich rant: media, what the fuck are you doing?

Link: https://www.jefftiedrich.com/p/media-what-the-fuck-are-you-doing

remember when Trump started channeling Hitler, blathering on about how immigrants were “vermin poisoning our blood of our country”? it was a one-day story, and then the press found some other shiny object to fixate on. Trump is still Hitlering at the top of his lungs. ‘vermin poisoning our blood’ is still part of his stump speech. but the press? they’ve moved on. nothing to see here.

remember Project 2025, the Republican plan to end democracy in America and replace it with Trump Rule Forever? it’s totally scary shit, but it’s pretty much only gotten one article in the Washington Post. the rest of the mainstream media hasn’t bothered to take notice. contrast that with what’s going on with the press right now: we’re now in Day 4 of the great freak-out over jOe BiDeN’s AgE.

what legitimately should have been a one-day story — “Joe Biden exonerated in classified documents investigation” — has now grown into a feeding frenzy, all because some rogue MAGA counsel worked himself into a big mad when he couldn’t find anything to charge Sleepy Brandon with, and decided to use his report to make gratuitous and unprofessional judgements about Biden’s acuity.

oh my god, does our lazy press love to have a narrative dropped right the fuck into its lap. so much easier than reporting!

Today is Super Bowl Sunday, but I'll use a baseball analogy here. I think Tiedrich has knocked it out of the park! He goes on to give several examples of how Chump's disturbing speeches and Xweets get ignored in the US press, but the same press keeps harping on "Joe Biden's age" like it's the 2024 version "Hillary's emails."

Oh my god I'm so sick of this, and I can't believe it's only February. This is a classic Tiedrich rant and I doubt very much that anyone in the media pays attention.

(I know, 4 paragraphs or something, and it's hard to pick with Tiedrich. )

Regarding Trump inviting Russia to attack Europe:

as with all noises that fall out of Shitty Hitler’s ignorant face, this statement is a big bowl of what even the fuck.

...

second, this obsession with NATO countries “not paying their bills” is based on a complete fiction. Trump made it up. there are no bills. the US does not bill other countries for protection.

...

so what the fuck is he gibbering about?

...

thirdly, and most importantly, here’s Trump coming right out and saying that he would “encourage” Russia to attack a NATO country — to “do whatever the hell they want.”

what. the. fuck.

Putin sure got his money’s worth when he backed this traitor in 2016.

I watched a few minutes of Face the Nation. And I’m thinking does that talking head know that a reporter is supposed to report not just repeat gossip? All of these assholes have talked with Joe one on one, or in a small setting, no doubt and they know the report bullshit too. They chase after every Republican dirty trick is if it could possibly be the truth with their tongue hanging out like dogs after a raw steak or something

Borrowing from Tiedrich's rant, linked in the OP:

[New York Times] Why the Age Issue Is Hurting Biden So Much More Than Trump

Both Donald J. Trump and President Biden are over 75. But voters are much less likely to worry that Mr. Trump is too old to serve.

fucking awesome. we’ve reached the point in this pile-on where the press is now asking how could this all have happened, as if news coverage is something that just spontaneously generates itself, magically, and isn’t shaped by reporters and editors hungry for a narrative.

the Times is like an arsonist, standing in middle of the street, gas can in hand, wondering aloud how all these fires got started.

such a mystery!

Media conglomerates have billions at stake.

Yep. Jeff gets it. I worked in media. I saw narratives form. Was in the room when it happened.

You'd be surprised how much of it IS laziness. They want to go home on time, or early. So they have time to work on that novel about a courageous reporter who risks all for truth and justice.

I'm guessing that word will be associated with profanity from now until eternity.

Sorry - I do understand your concerns. Some commentators seem to feel that injecting swear words into a sentence makes them more important. Perhaps they could just start! using things like exclamation points! scattered throughout!

They are just going further and further.
THey interview the right wing talkers first then move on to the Democratic people and use the loaded words they picked up from the right wing noise machine. It has always been unbalanced.

Every time they mention him, it's a free campaign commercial. It diesn't matter what he says, his base loves it. He could chop the heads off of live babies at a podium and his fans would cheer. He can't win any election by just talking to a few hundred nut cases like himself. I want to hear them complaining that the media is ignoring him. Having news coverage of every time he stepped in front of a microphone is how he won in 2016.

I'd love to see the media conglomerates smashed to little pieces so that rich men can't own them all.

There would then be a few voices in the wilderness, calling that asshole Hur on his baseless speculation on Biden's neurological status (which he is not qualified to assess) and relatively little in the way of legal opiniom.

Hur's report was a shameful piece of rubbish. Rich men want their good puppy media to avoid pointing that out.

And the MSM has largely fallen in line. Money buys speech.

This is one very important reason local news is so vital to the continuation of our democracy.

And so the overton window shifts more and more to the right because the media is beholden to the agenda of profit making, and the orders, hints and demands and threats to the workers who do the work, from the ceo and executive boards. It has an agenda and it is to dominate the influence reaching the American people.

If these monopoly media companies had a shred of decency the media would still be very diverse.

If most media is right wing trash,it appears like right wing trash is profitable. So small outfits trying to compete with gigantic monopolies shift rightward from desperation as it fails to survive.

Media needs to be separated from profit requirements and ceo & executive boards disgusting controlling agendas of what to shriek about and what to ignore.
The solution to this stranglehold is not more capitalism.

Strong clear limits by legislation that cant be undermined by lawyers without a conscience along with the ruthless breaking up of monopoly the owner classes own and its satellites is required
To even begin to free our press.

Dont pretend a billionaire shitty republican media is not monopolized by a right wing agenda to influence or outright control what they own.

An owned press monopoly has destroyed our free press.
The leftward papers have been cut out from the market, sold to rightwing pigs or gone out of business.
More competition wont fix this .

You have to stand up to the rich fuckers and tell them they have enough and keep them from purchasing more media and more influence that they already have we need to tell the rich no,you cant have that one too.

I found out about and read about project 2025 on tik tok.

Tik tok is a freer press to me than the corporate media and right wing owned social media is.

Yeah check the story and the sources but to me tik tok does better news than faux, newsmax and oan will ever do.

Dont freakout over tik tok.
The owner class does not want people all over the planet to talk to each other because they will come to a conclusion the wealthy are the ones stealing labor and fucking over the "lower" classes .

It has always been, no war but class war.
