Why are Too Many Americans Ignoring the Ongoing Collapse of Democracy in the US?
https://hartmannreport.com/p/why-are-too-many-americans-ignoring-024Like an alcoholic family that wont discuss alcoholism (proving Don Quixotes warning never to mention rope in the home of a man whos been hanged), far too many Americans are unwilling to acknowledge or even discuss the ongoing collapse of democracy in the United States.
We see it in everything from our last two Republican presidents having lost the national vote but taking office anyway, to the extreme gerrymandering happening in every Red state in the country, to the naked bribery of our legislators and Supreme Court justices.
And our media exclude it from almost every conversation. Networks run promotions mentioning Trumps indictments, but completely fail to point out that he is calling for the end of democracy in America, the suspension of the Constitution, and playing the role of a dictator on day one.
Comment: Too many Americans, I think, fail to understand that this is NOW and not some distant possibility in the future.

(25,471 posts)Many, many people - way more than a lot of people realize - will vote for any Republican over any Democrat. The rest, to them, is just noise. That couldn't be any clearer than in the case of Donald Trump. Lots and lots of people disapprove of him personally, but vote for him anyway because he's a Republican and they assume he'll pursue stuff they want.
"having lost the national vote but taking office anyway"
Apparently, the author is unfamiliar with the Electoral College.
"Networks run promotions mentioning Trumps indictments, but completely fail to point out that he is calling for the end of democracy in America"
Nonsense. His comment about being a dictator, for one, got tons of coverage.
I sometimes wonder if the people who complain the most about the media ever actually watch or read anything they produce. Does the media have issues? Of course it does, but the never-ending complaint that they never cover anything is just garbage.

Hartmann may go off, but I suspect he recalls what the Electoral College represents.
