Rosenberg - Iowa Another GOP Underperformance

Simon Rosenberg's Substack column "Hopium Chronicles" is very informative and encouraging.

https://open.substack.com/pub/simonwdc/p/iowa-another-gop-underperformance?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=1psx3o

Excerpts:

While we got more snow than expected (in D.C.), last night Republicans saw a lot less voters show up than expected. Turnout in the Iowa Caucuses last night was 115,000, down from 186,000 in 2016. Another election, another GOP struggle, another GOP underperformance - what we’ve been seeing again and again post Dobbs in election after election, in all parts of the country, for more than 18 months now.

I think the GOP has been struggling since Dobbs because this MAGA, Trumpy party is deeply unattractive even to many Republican voters. Trumpy candidates in the 2022 battlegrounds saw their party splinter, Republicans vote for Democrats and they lost, some times by enormous margins. Democrats then took away important things from Republicans in 2023 due to this ongoing GOP electoral struggle - a SCOTUS seat and outrageous gerrymandering in WI; Colorado Springs and Jacksonville - two of the largest GOP held cities in the country; the six-week abortion ban in Ohio; the state House and the hope of the 15 week abortion ban as a safe heaven in VA; and cities, city councils, state legislative seats and school board races across the US.

The fundamental problem Republicans face in 2024 is that their Presidential candidate and party are more unattractive than they’ve ever been. They’ve brought unprecedented chaos and extremism to Congress, and a historic appeasement of genocidal Putin; dozens of their leaders across the US have been indicted for supporting a party wide effort to overturn an election and end American democracy; they are content to leave pregnant women to die on a hospital table, denying them the life saving care they need; they are refusing to pass common sense reforms to make it easier for the US government to manage our border and rising immigrant flows. They want more dead kids in schools, the planet to warm faster, to strip health insurance from tens of millions, establish mass deportation camps, and to keep taking away freedoms and rights common throughout the modern world……

And then there’s Trump. More degraded, extreme, dangerous than 2016 and 2020. His performance on the stump is far more erratic and wild. He keeps making big, consequential unforced errors due to his mental decline and mania. And there are the things he’s done that voters did not know about last time - his rape of a woman in a department store dressing room; his decades-long financial fraud; his leading of a party-wide effort to overturn an election and end American democracy for all time; his being more responsible for ending Roe and stripping American women of rights and freedoms than any other single person; his rancid stealing of America’s secrets and sharing them with others; his taking of more money from foreign governments than any politician and political family in history. None of these things were known in 2020. Any one of them could disqualify him with voters. Taken together it’s an unprecedented basket of awfulness, and it’s just hard to imagine how he survives it all.

Yes! Trump only just barely squeaked through in 2016 when he convinced many voters to give him a chance and see what he could do. They gave him a chance, he was terrible, and they rejected him four years later. Since then, all those things in the fourth paragraph have happened. Surely there's never been a major candidate with as many strong negatives as Trump.

...it's interesting to see what things voters did NOT know about Trump in 2020.

If you have not read the rest of Rosenberg's column, I highly recommend you do!

Or any other MAGA-bubble propaganda outlets?

I doubt most drumpfucks are even aware about most of that stuff

...sure, a lot of Republicans have drunk Trump's Kool-Aid, but there's likely an equal or greater number that aren't buying it. We won't get them all, but neither will Trump.

I have created a second account called "RussBLib2" because my original account "RussBLib" has become corrupted somehow and is now totally unusable.

I am going to try to get help to resurrect my original account. I tweaked a couple of settings in "Account" and now it's unusable. No idea if I screwed it up myself or if someone hacked me in some way.

It shows everything you've posted recently which leads me to believe your problem may be with
your posting device. Do you have more than one device you can log in with?

Don't believe Earl lets people have more than one account. On any of your OPs down at the bottom
will be a box that says "POWERS" click that and explain the problem you're having.

Here's a recent OP of yours.......

And it does look like my issues were related to that problem with Night Mode that EarlG announced. I have been using Night Mode exclusively across, yes, multiple devices, which is why it affected all of my devices, I guess. I could not remember how to contact any of the Admins to alert them to the/my problem. By scrolling in the dark, I could find and open some posts, but not many. I had altered some of my DU Account Settings because I noticed earlier in the day that the text on my DU pages was very, very small and I didn't change any settings to make it that small. I also changed some Settings on my smartphone to make text larger, and in the middle of all that, boom! The darkness encroached.

Maybe the creation of RussBLib2 helped in some way.

Thanks for your attention!

They make Iowa sound like a landslide. It wasn't even a trickle. And half of the Republicans in a very conservative, almost completely Maga state on the GOP side voted for someone else.

Not to mention how absolutely skewed the polling data is being reported. Straight up, polls that don't do all of the extensive "factoring" never get in the media, but they're showing Biden a lot stronger than the broken down ones they are reporting.
