No OB-GYNs left in town: what came after Idaho's assault on abortion

This article is from last summer, but is on point.

“We can look across the country, at the abortion laws, and who bears the burden and the brunt of these abortion restrictions. And it is on people in lower socioeconomic classes, it is people of color, it is Indigenous people,” she says. “It’s this doubling down on vulnerable communities.”

In recent years, seemingly liberated by the unhinged rhetoric and bizarre posturing of Donald Trump and the US supreme court’s decision on abortion, the state has veered off a cliff into political extremism. Trumpism has gone local, infiltrating state legislatures and local governments. But the women of Sandpoint warn this concerted attack on human rights won’t stop at their state’s borders. Idaho’s far-right undercurrent is now a norm in American politics.

“It does seem to be decades of organizing that are paying off and it seems to be spiraling. The misogyny was always there, and the racism was always there,”

The problem is going to get worse for rural Red State areas. A true dystopian medical future for women, well, at least for non-wealthy women.

Folks in the rest of the state, not so easy or lucky. While the GOP changes in abortion laws certainly affect OB/GYNs, in general, with rural hospital closures in the 1000's over the last decade, all sorts of medical specialties and emergency care are getting harder and harder for a lot of Americans to readily access.

There will be no access for women in red states at all. We all need to pay attention and get rid of all GQP. They are an existential threat to freedom and democracy.
