It's a good thing women won't date Trump voters

It's a good thing women won't date Trump voters
Now the Washington Post has joined a campaign to shame women for having the bare minimum "no Trump voters" standard

By AMANDA MARCOTTE
Senior Writer
PUBLISHED NOVEMBER 28, 2023 6:00AM (EST)

(Salon) It's an amusing truth that comes up with regularity: Men who love Donald Trump struggle on the dating market. This is neither surprising nor regrettable. Supporting Trump is much like refusing to bathe, blowing your nose in your hands or farting loudly on purpose. It's a repugnant habit that makes you repulsive to normal people. The whole point of dating and marriage is to find happiness, not to spend the rest of one's days suffering in silence while the racist you live with cackles over Greg Gutfeld's latest hateful diatribe disguised as "comedy."

This should be common sense. Yet our sexist culture remains too enamored by stories of female self-sacrifice to accept that it's just fine if Trump voters never get laid. Even people who really should know better have taken to bullying liberal women for their refusal to date male Trump voters. "If attitudes don’t shift, a political dating mismatch will threaten marriage," declared a recent headline of a Washington Post column by the editorial board. To make it even grosser, the op-ed was published the day before Thanksgiving, as if to arm "concerned" relatives who planned to spend the holiday pestering single women at dinner over when they will get serious about finding a husband.

In this unsigned essay, the authors fret that the "ideological divide" between young men and women is preventing Gen Z — who range in age from 9 to 27— from getting married. Women under 30 are far more likely to be liberal than men, who are far more likely to identify as conservative. Citing data showing Democratic voters generally refuse to date Trump voters, the Post editors argue that people should be more willing to date across party lines, and learn to appreciate "alternative perspectives that may at first seem odd or offensive."

....(snip)....

Marrying a Trump voter isn't just a matter of minor political differences, or expecting someone to be exactly like yourself. For women, in particular, it's about being able to be safe and respected inside your own home, which is a very minimum standard all people deserve. Voting for Trump means backing a man who has been accused of sexual assault by two dozen women, and who a judge and jury deemed responsible for rape. It means backing the man who repeatedly brags about how he got Roe v. Wade overturned. In addition, the MAGA media consumed by most Republicans is hardly neutral on the question of sexism. They are all for it, from the tired sexist jokes on Fox News to bizarre internet trends like "tradwives." For a woman, marrying a Trump supporter isn't about being with someone who has different views on tax rates. It's bringing someone into your home who ascribes to an ideology in which you are not fully human. .................(more)

The profound cognitive dissonance of an LGBTQ+ person supporting ANY Republican, let alone Trump, blows my mind. But I’m acquainted with two gay men- one is a gentleman the other an ass- who both support Trump. Weird.

It’s similar to women who support Trump. To me, it doesn’t make any sense. As Ms. Marcotte points out in her Salon article:

For a woman, marrying a Trump supporter isn't about being with someone who has different views on tax rates. It's bringing someone into your home who ascribes to an ideology in which you are not fully human.

Not that it matters but isn’t George Santos gay? Of course, he’s a complete fraud.

Tue Nov 28, 2023, 04:15 PM

There are so many reasons not to. tRump supporters TEND to HATE whoever they are encouraged to hate by fox news, newsmax and other right-wing entities. Also, include Jews, Muslims, or anybody non-Christian.

Marriage is about LOVE, not Hate. And if your life is about hating, then loving somebody gets dangerously complicated. How about a republican guy who owns three rifles including an AR-15? Would he be considered prime dating material?

Women influence our society in a very helpful manner: they decide who to breed with. That is an important reason why America is so attractive to people around the world. Women in America are not sent to a "period hut" like India.

A woman can and should decide quite on her own whom she dates, sleeps with and marries. If she decides that a man who supports someone with Trump’s stated and demonstrated values is not for her, who the hell is some (frustrated?) Post op-ed writer to tell her she’s wrong?

If a majority of women in DC find Trump abhorrent, it’s only logical that they would find a man who agrees with Trump’s values equally abhorrent. If these guys think Trump is so great, let them seek out women who agree with them. If there are none to be found, and that doesn’t tell them something, let them go whine on the op-ed pages of the local paper in Biloxi, and then move there if and when scores of attractive Trump-supporting women make their masochistic identities and desires known.

My husband and I love to debate politics--I know people who have to avoid such discussions with their spouses. i can't even imagine.

This was before being Republican meant you were a fascist. Now it's time to get serious. They're trying to take everything away from the rest of us, potentially commit mass murder, and destroy the planet. I'm not going to be civil about that.

Methinks the Post writer is a frustrated Republican who has no clue about women or what is going on in the world. Maybe he's in the wrong line of work.

If a man adores the brazen, blatant liar and isn't bothered by his mountains of lies, then he's almost certainly a liar. If she dates him, he'll lie to her, but WaPo wants her to date the liar. Apparently WaPo thinks that dating liars is a good way to find a good relationship, or at least you should give it a try.

If a man adores the brazen, blatant racist, then he's almost certainly a racist too. If she dates him, he'll be racist with her and her friends, but WaPo wants her to date the racist who will hate her black and brown friends and embarrass her to her non-racist friends. My God, WaPo, have you lost your mind? Or only your morals?

If a man adores the misogynist , serial rapist and molester, and is quite happy with the grab-'em-by-the-pussy guy, then he's almost certainly a misogynist who will consider it his right to molest her and grab her by the pussy. My God, WaPo, you have definitely lost your morals and probably your mind too.

WaPo thinks that women should learn to appreciate "alternative perspectives that may at first seem odd or offensive." Apparently WaPo thinks that women should learn to appreciate liars because lying only seems odd or offensive "at first," but you'll get used to it and appreciate it.

WaPo thinks that women should learn to appreciate racism, because it only seems odd and offensive "at first," but you'll get used to it and appreciate it.

WaPo thinks that women should learn to appreciate misogyny, rape, and molestation, because they'll only seem odd and offensive "at first" until you get used to them and appreciate them.

WaPo thinks that refusing to date men who adore lying, racism, and rape is a serious threat to marriage. I think that WaPo is a serious threat to women.

How far you've fallen, WaPo.

Ties right in with the Repuke/MRA/incel mindset of "we've got to limit women's options to access good education/careers and control their bodies so that they'll be forced to tie themselves via marriage to low-quality men like us"

In some ways, polarization is exactly what one would expect in a large, unwieldy democracy such as the United States’. Americans no longer agree on many questions of how to live or what to live for. These differences can’t just be papered over through good-faith dialogue — because they are real.

No, they aren't real. They are the result of propaganda manufactured rage and hate. Since Noot Gangrenous ran the house the dialogue has turned from "how can we make the US a better place for everyone" to "how can we demonize everyone that questions our twisted perception of reality."
