Mike Johnson's Theology is Wrong
https://signalpress.blogspot.com/2023/11/mike-johnsons-theology-is-wrong.htmlJohnson's rhetoric is very common among Evangelicals who base their worldview on the assumption that the covenant relationship described in the Old Testament between God and Israel also applies to the United States. It's also a way to indirectly blame their political opposition for the immorality and claim they're the ones dragging the country down, and to justify their desire to use the power of government to enforce a morality that they can't seem to maintain by depending on God's spiritual power alone.
If Speaker Johnson is looking for hypocrisy, he needs to face a mirror.

(22,196 posts)most misleading of the words of God and the Bible. They mislead thousands, they grift money along with the best of them (no wonder tRUMP likes them), and anything they do, everything they do, they explain it away w/ their very specialized interpretation of the words of the Bible. In essence, in truth, the only words that have special meaning to me is Love Thy Neighbor (there are other words, but these has among the most impact to me). They cover so much, in how humanity should treat their fellow men and women.

you cherry-pick the parts you like.
you misinterpret the parts that are inconvenient.
you ignore the parts you don't like.

The Bible's writers were actually pretty clear in writing what they did. It must be understood in terms of the historical context in which it was written. That can't be lifted, and when it is, as in the case of what Johnson and many other conservative Evangelicals believe, a false and inaccurate interpretation is the result.

(3,915 posts)Trump is American immorality.
Quote, from Signal Press:
Supporting Donald Trump, even as a secular politician, would be a position that runs counter to everything Johnson is claiming. He's lamenting the low moral state of America, and ignoring one of the causes of it. It is completely inconsistent to claim that America is reaching new moral lows while ignoring one of its moral lows.
