Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine's legacy of weakness

https://www.cleveland.com/opinion/2023/11/reputations-tarnished-leaders-rebuked-in-issue-1s-decisive-passage-brent-larkin.html

(snip)

These are older white men who owe their success to cheating -- defying the Ohio Constitution by drawing rigged legislative districts and then tricking voters into believing they’re public servants.

If DeWine again rolls over for legislators, he just may end up being remembered as one of the weakest governors in Ohio history. Aside from playing a role in Central Ohio’s explosive economic growth, DeWine’s last three years have been marred by the House Bill 6/FirstEnergy Corp. scandal that tainted his office, his total surrender to the gun lobby that gives lie to his stated claims about wanting to protect children, and other political miscalculations.

(snip)

More bad taste was on display in the waning days of the abortion rights campaign, courtesy of an offensive television ad featuring DeWine and his wife, Fran, urging voters to oppose the issue. In an Oct. 23 column in the Akron Beacon Journal, Michael Douglas, the newspaper’s thoughtful former editorial page editor, shredded both the governor and his wife, calling the ad “a low point of his time as governor” and citing deceptive claims they made about parental rights and late-term abortions.

Douglas accused the governor of straying “far from belief, policy and principle. He joins in the deceitfulness of opponents. He fans their misleading claims. It is not an attractive profile, no matter how much the pair seeks to soothe.”

****** Ohioans weren’t fooled by DeWine partnering with the Catholic Church to spread disinformation and LaRose’s election trickery. If only we could build on what Beshear has done in KY.

And Larkin is no lefty, but, Republicans in Ohio have gone too far in embracing the fascist agenda of White Christian Nationalists.

But I truly believe Ohio is more purple than red. We just have such ridiculous gerrymandering here. And the state GOP has weaseled its way out of the voters’ mandate to draw fairer maps.

However I have no explanation for Vance. 🤮🤮🤮

Senators from different parties.

Elizabeth Warren on Vance

“ Warren, who enlisted Vance to build GOP support for a bill to claw back compensation from executives of failed banks, said he’s been “terrific to work with.”

Actually it’s easy to explain.

He’s from the epitome of rust belt decay. He’s a marine, served in Iraq. Graduates from OSU Summ Cum Laude, Yale Law school. Quite the success story.
