NBC News, Nov. 8, 2023. 1:21 pm. Youngkin said Wednesday that he's "not going anywhere," speaking after Republicans narrowly lost both state legislative chambers in Tuesday's elections.
Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin said Wednesday that hes not going anywhere and that he remains focused on the state, indicating that he will not be a candidate in the 2024 presidential election. Youngkin has long left wiggle room in his answers to questions about the 2024 election, even as filing deadlines and other logistical hurdles made the idea of a late presidential bid seem unlikely.
Even so, some supporters have long remained interested in the idea of his joining the GOP primary field. But jumping in now would mean going back on his statement that hes staying focused on his state. Youngkin brushed off a direct question about the 2024 race by noting at a post-election news conference that hes not on the ballot in the early primary states.
Youngkin said he was disappointed in the state legislative results Tuesday, in which Democrats kept the state Senate and flipped the state House, despite a big Republican push for complete control of state government. This was a razor-thin set of decisions on both sides in a number of these races, and it underpins the fact that Virginia is a state that has historically moved back and forth," he said.
Virginia Republicans, led by Youngkin, competed to take over the Legislature for the final two years of his term and win the ability to push their legislative proposals. They included a proposed restriction on abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy. But Democrats campaigned hard against the plan and won key swing seats using that message. "Abortion is potentially one of the most difficult topics in Virginia and the nation," Youngkin said...

(182,966 posts)I know there was a big fundraiser conference in late October at The Beach Im which it was reported that he was going to be encouraged to be ready to run. I think even he knows running FROM your first term as a governor is pushing it.
Hes not the wonder child many thinks he is. He ran a good campaign against a bad campaign and he was able be purposefully vague in relation to Trump.

(3,697 posts)He had folks thinking he'd discovered some secret sauce for a Republican to win in a blue/purple state. His win for GOV was the result of a perfect storm and that won't happen again.
