He cannot rule by fiat so whatever personally terrible or crazy things he might promulgate if he were emperor, thankfully, he is not. If he can at least get the system working to some extent, other than letting foolish wastes of time thru, like trying to impeach Biden, he may be somewhat useful. The fact that he is third in line for the Presidency is not comforting, of course. If he doesn't fix the rule that says he can be ousted as Speaker by any one rep requesting it, won't be long before he runs afoul of some wingnut and follows McCarthy. I suppose, if Dems were of a mind, they could one by one call for his ouster. Each time tying up House time in dealing with the request. Wouldn't that be amusing to watch if it was not so damaging to getting the necessities of the country done?

He says he wants to be transparent and communicative so all (by which I think he just means the Repug caucus) are comfortable with the path he is leading them down. I suspect the reason McCarthy, Ryan, Boehner and so on didn't do that is because it will take WAAAAYYYYY too much time and not really bring everyone on their side together anyway, so they push and prod to get just enough votes to move on and it ticks off some or all of the wingnuts.

So now I have to go check on what, exactly, "barmy" means.

They used it twice so it wasn't a typo or anything.
