House in limbo as Jordan continues speaker bid despite stiff GOP resistance
CNN The House remains paralyzed with no end in sight to the Republican leadership crisis as GOP Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio continues his bid for speaker despite facing stiff resistance.
The Ohio Republican, who has made a name for himself as a hardline conservative agitator, has so far vowed to stay in the race despite two failed votes for the gavel. The House could hold a third vote for speaker as soon as Thursday afternoon, though no vote has been officially scheduled yet.
Tensions are rising among House Republicans as pressure grows to find a way to resolve the standoff. In a sign of growing opposition to his candidacy, Jordan fared worse in a second round of voting on Wednesday than he had in the first vote a day earlier.

(21,337 posts)He wants a shutdown, he wants chaos, and Jordan is working for that whether he becomes Speaker or whether he does not.
199 House Magats voted for a leader of the insurrection, they don't give a rat's ass whether they get a Speaker or not.
The MSM pushes the narrative that the Magat House is dysfunctional, no it is not, that is the plan, chaos.

(8,964 posts)They could propose a more mainstream conservative nominee that would conceivably get enough votes from either side of the aisle to end the stalemate. Whether or not this ever comes to pass is anyone's guess. I agree with your chaos motive. Jordan is a Trump surrogate who would burn the country down if given the opportunity. It seems as if he is angling to do just that, whether he gets the gavel or not. On the other hand, I don't believe that a majority of House members ascribe to his brand of radicalism.

(21,337 posts)I look for House Magats to move to give bow tie boy the power of Speaker until Jan. 2024. The problem with that is, will House Magats work with Democrats to limit bow tie boy's authority? Democrats will never give him a blank check to carry on as if he really was an elected Speaker. House Magats can then claim that it is Democrats fault not to allow bow tie boy to be Speaker. Bow tie boy is no moderate, he is as far right as they come.
House Magats are going to have to give concessions to Democrats, I'm not so sure there are enough willing Magats to do that.

(2,146 posts)is Jim's plan. Just repeating the vote until everyone gives up out of fatigue and desperation. But that won't work, because the House Dems are united, and their choice keeps getting more votes than Jim. In a more normal situation, we would have a Dem Speaker by now. Maybe the Dem side will push for a rule change to majority vote. Or maybe some Repubs will vote for Hakeem, just to break the log jam and spite Jim and the MAGATs.
Jim has created a lot of resentment on his side of the aisle, burned a few bridges with his threats and intimidation, and I don't think Repubs are going to switch their votes to make him speaker. They know what an AH he is and i bet a few would vote fro Hakeem just to spite Jim. And few votes is all Hakeem needs.

(2,146 posts)And Jim created it. The GOP is in implosion mode right now - that much is evident. I seriously doubt they will be able to re- group.

Very cool.
Extrapolating, this universe might be the only one of countless near-copies that "works" so it exists. Just my take on it. The others flunked math.
Now, you can get Feynman Path Integrals on EBay!

(51,557 posts)Jordan said this afternoon that he plans to call for a third vote on the floor today to see if he can finally reach the 217 votes needed to be elected speaker.
As he passed reporters asking whether members would go to the floor for a third vote today, Jordan said, "That's the plan."

(6,131 posts)Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) will not seek an additional speaker vote Thursday, and he will back a plan to give Rep. Patrick T. McHenry (R-N.C.), the temporary speaker, additional powers, according to multiple people who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the situation. After two rounds of votes, a group of Republicans had made it clear that Jordan did not have enough support to win the speakers gavel. With House functions at a standstill, lawmakers can now consider a proposal to expand McHenrys powers.
