'Very serious situation' unfolding in Europe, WHO warns, as cases rise dramatically
https://www.cnbc.com/2020/09/17/coronavirus-latest-europe-jittery-as-cases-rise-and-lockdowns-return.html"We have a very serious situation unfolding before us," WHO's regional director for Europe, Hans Kluge, said Thursday in a press briefing on the epidemiological situation in the region. "Weekly cases have now exceeded those reported when the pandemic first peaked in Europe in March."
"There have been growing concerns in Europe for a number of weeks at what is being seen as an alarming rise in coronavirus cases, with the number of new daily infections reaching record highs in some countries.
It linked the rise to the relaxation of physical distancing and other preventive measures."
"As schools reopen and more indoor activities are held, the increase of cases comes as a reminder that the pandemic is not over," the ECDC warned, as it reminded the public to continue basic measures to prevent the spread of the virus, including hand washing, face masks and self-isolation when feeling ill."
*France and Spain are seeing huge increases.

(54,369 posts)My wife just returned from the village where her mom lives. Some "not-on-most-maps" town no one has ever heard of. Just last week, a couple of very minor soccer teams had matches in the area, and went out partying in this town. No masks, of course. Including outlying areas and a few farms, it has maybe 35,000 people. The place suddenly reported an explosion of new Covid-19 cases. I have lots I have to do all over the place in the next month, and I know my wife is going to freak out about it. Paris, Brussels, Frankfurt, Zürich. Spain is practically walled off again. Germany is having maskless Trump rallies (for real!) and will surely overwhelm the health care system (again) within ten days. I wonder where there is left to go? Grand Fenwick?

(51,590 posts)France 13,000 and Belgium 2,000. Spain is all over the place. Europe is a mess. I follow the charts and this week I couldn't believe my eyes. The cases around the world are all increasing....this virus is not going away any time soon. The only good thing is that other countries seem to have gotten control of the high death numbers (so far).
