AOC is the hornets nest Republicans cannot stop themselves from pokingLeonard Pitts, Tampa Bay Times, 7/29/2020
She was in line at a Walmart in rural Ohio.
She was at a bar in San Francisco.
She was a post office supervisor in Miami.
He told her to smile, and she didnt.
He wanted to buy her a drink, and she declined.
He didnt like her driving. He didnt like her T-shirt. He had been her friend for seven years, but he didnt like when she was put in charge of the percussion section in their marching band.
So he called her something, a vulgar noun modified by a vulgar adjective, neither of which is printable here, both of which you know all too well, because they are a woman-hating insult routine in the lexicon of men whose primacy has been challenged, whose egos have been bruised, who have been denied something they want.
Last week, it took center stage in the House of Representatives, via a speech from Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. For some reason, she is the hornets nest Republicans cannot stop themselves from poking, even though they end up stung to pieces every time.

(10,156 posts)Some men just cant bear to have a woman be smarter than they are and have to denigrate her with language or sometimes physical violence. Im glad Rep, Yoho was caught and AOC made him look like the fool he is for all the world to see.

(131 posts)I also think many of them have the hots for her. Another simmering irritant to their fragile egos.

(721 posts)She started as an easy target for them, and has become a formidable enemy. And in these particular times, she has an army on the streets standing with her. She suddenly symbolizes much more than an easy target uppity ***** from the Hispanic working class.
The republicans can't resist the attacks, and really want to bring her down, however pathetic the attempt. There's a trophy in it for them, and the stronger she gets the bigger the trophy.
Thanks for writing it all so eloquently and clearly. It's good people like you have her back.

(12,174 posts)and inspiring to Democrats nationwide. All the Republicans can do is scream their impotent rage, as she keeps succeeding and leaving them in the dust.
In an era that truly sucks in so many ways, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez makes me a little more glad to be alive in the U.S.A. right now.

(56,829 posts)the GOP have been successful at framing AOC as a radical leftist member of The Squad for their base. She is their new boogeyman like Bill & Hillary Clinton in the 1990s, Hillary in the 2000s and 2010s and Obama from 2007-17. They stoke their base over her and use her name in fundraising letters & emails. If she runs for higher office (Senator, Governor, President, VP), it will be further used to fire up their base to GOTV against AOC
