Is Working with the Lincoln Project Sleeping with the Enemy?

Heath Eiden, a video producer who volunteered for Walter Mondales campaign as a kid, followed the enemy-of-my-enemy principle when he shot the new anti-Trump Betrayed ad.
Excerpt:
Eiden was torn. On the one hand, work was scarce during the pandemic, and, of course, he abhorred Trump and had been frustrated by the Democrats failure to hit back. But, as a dyed-in-the-down Minnesota liberal, he had misgivings about working with what he called the dark sidesome of the Republican operatives who, by way of rough tactics, had engineered the demise of so many of his favored candidates through the years. Ultimately, though, the enemy-of-my-enemy principle pertained.
The previous week, hed driven to Minneapolis with his teen-age son, to pay their respects (and shoot some footage) at the memorial for George Floyd. That experience, plus a few days in the suburbs among covid truthers, and an encounter with a waiter making an I cant breathe joke, had only quickened his revulsion. If it takes working with Republicans to get this fucker out of the White House, fine, he said.
What kind of style do you want? Eiden asked Stevens.
Think Swift Boat, Stevens replied.
I knew exactly what Id found myself in the middle of, Eiden recalled.

(46,122 posts)Swift Boat was all lies. The Lincoln Project hasn't told a single lie that I'm aware of.

(6,009 posts)After Biden gets elected, and the blue wave sweeps over congress, and the inevitable heel turn comes, and they start attacking Democrats, and democratic initiatives, then that's a different story.

(740 posts)I doubt that they will ever be welcome in todays Putin/Trump/GOP. One can hope that have seen the light and will become people who are on our side. We could learn from them, lets face it we are not anywhere need as aggressive as they are when it comes to going after the other side and if America is to survive we need to end the current GOP power. Replacing it with a sane version that would work with us would make life easier. Can that happen only time will tell
let the people who know them best and helped the Cons get to this point, bring them down

(8,978 posts)That being the antithesis of democracy, political philosophies aside. And given the stakes, at this time we do not have the luxury of not "sleeping" with them.

(2,028 posts)Giving money, yes.
Right now theyre doing good work. There is no shame in doing work with the enemy of the enemy, especially if theyre paying.
But giving them money is problematic. That money can be sat on to be turned against a Dem candidate in the future.

(3,268 posts)I said this "I like Steve and his rant is strikingly on point-but you should know this, as soon as Trump is gone he will spend the rest of his life trying to breathe life into the corpse of the GOP and will until he finds an acceptable version of "Trump Light" and then he will use his considerable intellect to again infect this country with a philosophy that should be anathema to all who believe in true equality-the old GOP never did and a new one never will. As for me I will simply live from election to election until no person self identifying as a Republican can aspire to a position loftier than Dog Catcher."
