Cuomo Dismisses Trump's Idea for N.Y. Region Quarantine.
I dont know how that could be legally enforceable, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said shortly after the president suggested sealing off the U.S. epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak.
Minutes after President Trump floated the possibility of a quarantine for the New York region, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Saturday dismissed the idea, calling it unworkable.
I spoke to the president about the ship coming up and the four sites, I didnt speak to him about any quarantine, Mr. Cuomo said at an afternoon briefing, referring to a hospital ship and four emergency hospitals being installed in New York.
I dont even know what that means, the governor said of a potential quarantine of New York. I dont know how that could be legally enforceable. From a medical point of view, I dont know what you would be accomplishing. I dont even like the sound of it.'>>>

(7,947 posts)He's mad at Cuomo for being effective and outspoken. So he's going to punish NY by saying he will force a quarantine on a state that has been locked down for a week already. Just to say, "I can smash you."
He's mad at Whitmer so won't even refer to her by name, and says almost straight out that he won't talk to her about what the state needs.
He's mad at GM because... uh... they closed a plant years ago and he made some stupid campaign pledge to make them re-open it (free market only matters when he wants it to), so he tweets calumny about them, orders them to make ventilators in a plant they no longer own-- only THAT plant because he said that in the campaign-- accuses them of price-gouging, and oh, by the way, they make AUTOS, not medical equipment, so they're no doubt baffled how to accomplish this.
It's all whim. None of it has anything to do with working for the US. Why don't his followers see that? For that matter, why don't the GOPers around him even bleat a tiny protest?

(6,831 posts)Because they are all in lockstep with Bitch McConnell --- drunk on a power they will NEVER gain again --- and want to milk it for all it's worth while they can. The upcoming election is going to be a BLUE tidal wave that will drown them. They know this. That is why they are pushing all kinds of crap through right now. Read the Federal Register and see all of the proposals being made to decimate the EPA, Dept Of Ed, oversight of so many industries, roll back of environmental regs, etc. What we DON'T hear about from the M$M about what is going on in the background is terrifying.

(25,183 posts)is marginalizing Joe Biden. He's realized that Andrew Cuomo has lately taken on rockstar status, and by engaging Cuomo, Trump keeps the spotlight off of Biden.
As a bonus, Trump gets to show cred to Midwestern swing states by putting New Yorkers down, just as he did when Trump said that NY didn't need so many ventilators. By getting Cuomo to defend NY, that insures that Biden's comments get virtually ignored.
This pResident is a master media manipulator, and he does it by carefully engaging his targets.

Any negotiation with Biden gets repeated by negotiations with a person who actually matters--for NYS, Cuomo. Biden runs nothing but his own campaign, and anything he says has no fiduciary responsibility behind it. If I were Cuomo and Biden was getting in the way, I'd tell him to shut up and get out of the way. There's no guarantee that Biden will take Cuomo's side in anything, much less everything. And just try to tell me that Biden would be okay with that kind of publicity.
For instance: Newsom requested 10k ventilators from the stockpile, and not sending them was an insult. There are fewer than 13000. Cuomo requested all of them, and not sending them meant Trump hated NY. Between the two of them, there's not one left over for Whitner. What should Biden say, except to mouth platitudes that from 2017 to now Trump should have increased the stockpile? Next thing he'd have to say is how many thousands were added from 2009-2017, but it's not clear that would be a good number. As it is, he can't say that any should go anywhere--otherwise you piss off 2 of the three governors, and by default every other (D) state (because no matter how you slice it, either you short NY, CA, MI, and give nobody else any; or you short NY, CA, M even more, and dole out a pittance to everybody else.)
