Okla. senators want MAGA license plates which might violate federal campaign finance rules

Two Republican state senators in Oklahoma want to make room on the roadways for President Trumps brand in a move that might be in violation of federal campaign finance rules.
State Sens. Nathan Dahm and Marty Quinn proposed new specialty license plates this week that would read Make America Great Again and Keep America Great, the two rallying slogans that Trump has used in his 2016 and 2020 bids for the White House, respectively.

Although the money collected from purchases of the Trump plate would go to veteran groups and not Trumps reelection campaign, the proposal could still violate campaign finance laws if the state uses taxpayer dollars or resources to make the plates.
These are political slogans, said Richard Briffault, a professor at Columbia Law School. This has the look and feel of using state resources to support a political candidate, which seems improper .?.?. and possibly illegal.

The license plate idea might backfire. In 2008, there was a story about a guy rammed off the road in TN for having an Obama bumper sticker.

(391 posts)Since the Tangerine Turd claims he is not accepting his salary, Rudy can negotiate a temporary
"Hands Off" the United States Postal Service policy. In exchange, tRump's face goes on every
stamp and tRump would receive a 10% fee for the use of his likeness.
Hitler's bag man, Martin Bormann cut a similar deal for Adolph.
The Tangerine turd would be happy and we'd get to keep our postal service.
Win-win?
