Trump resigns? Isn't it pretty to think so?
By Tom Burke / Herald columnist
An early autumn daydream: Donald John Trump resigned yesterday as the 45th president of the United States. Trump explained he didnt like the job or need it, and was losing billions from his business since his swearing-in on Jan. 20, 2017.
Trump claimed his action had nothing to do with House of Representatives impeachment proceedings. Rather, he said during a speech at the Shell petrochemical plant in Monaca, Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh, This thing is costing me a fortune, being president. He went on, What about the $5 billion that Ill lose? Its probably costing me from $3 to $5 billion.
Trump later told Reuters, I loved my previous life. I had so many things going. This is more work than in my previous life. I thought it would be easier.
His decision to leave the presidency was apparently best expressed when he said, Part of being a winner is knowing when enough is enough. Sometimes you have to give up the fight and walk away, and move on to something thats more productive. Now he has.
So, Trumps quotes are accurate, the news Trump resigned, isnt. I made that up. I lied. Just like my president has lied more than 12,000 times since being sworn in.
The way I figure it, if the president can blatantly, provably, consistently lie to the American people with no consequences, so can I. Im simply following his example. And indulging in a bit of wishful thinkging?

It takes a Quantum leap to get there, though.

(1,351 posts)That's exactly what I picture Trump's excuse for resigning, a claim that it's costing him too much and his businesses need his stellar leadership. He will need some sort of face-saving excuse.
I think Trump will resign if he thinks he might lose in 2020. He won't be able to handle the humiliation of losing.
I just want to see him out of office, but it would be a cherry on top to see him humiliated as well. Whether that is delivered by him losing the election, or being carted off to jail in handcuffs (or both--hey, we can all dream, right?)

(397 posts)The statute of limitations means that beyond 2022, those charges cannot be laid. His floating of the idea that he be given an extra three years to compensate for time lost during Mueller inquiry is not coincidence. His original suggestion was two years. Either would take him beyond the chance of those charges being laid.
Why else would a president ask for two more years rather than just run for a second term
