California, Texas, & Electoral College makes democracy in the U.S. impossible

A couple of months ago, California Governor Gavin Newsom told HBO that California today is what the future of America looks like. A typical line from a California governor, but he ended the interview saying that the Republican party of California has reached “third party status” and the national Republican Party “doesn’t even know what’s about to hit them.” He felt sorry for them.

Is this bluster or is there something real to be said about this? What does this say or predict about Texas in the future if indeed Texas is in transition as California was between 1980 and 1992? When more than 20% of all Americans live in Texas or California, what does it say about America?

"As wins in Texas become closer and closer, California becomes a bigger shaper of the national popular vote. This is a profound problem for democratic legitimacy of any Republican president in the future."

First thing: make DC a state.
Then: give PR the option. They’ll probably need to hold a referendum.

PR residents are US citizens but don’t pay income taxes. They held a referendum which voted for statehood but turnout wasn’t that high so I think slightly less than 50% of all PR residents voted for statehood.

DC doesn’t have either issue. DC residents ALREADY pay income tax, and in the recent DC referendum something like 80% of DC residents voted to become a state.

So DC is a no brainer. Make it a state. And give PR the option.

Republican Presidents even with huge Democratic popular votes. That is not democracy.

Except more GOTV in red states. There is little possibility of an Amendment getting rid of the EC.

There are both workers and retirees who have moved to other states and been changing the voting majorities. There are still states in the middle of the country where no sane person would move to except people from third world countries. There is a 30% voting minority, who live in California's rural areas, who vote republican. Demarcates moving to "rural" states is a very slow immigration process. Also in these states home grown democrats leave their states to live a better life in blue states. Texas attracted people with good high tech jobs. I do not think this will occur in other RED states because the "high tech" does not exist in most states.........
