The New York Times Asked the Democratic Presidential Candidates the Same 18 Questions.
Here Are the Boldest Answers.
e.g: 1. In an ideal world, would anyone own handguns?
Boldest Answer: Julián Castro
Castro stood out for saying, clearly, that he thinks we would be better off without firearms altogether:
In an ideal world, people would not own handguns, and there are a number of countries around the world where people do not own handgunswhere theyre not permittedand we see that those countries have more safety, greater safety, less violent deaths and so forth. However, we also recognize in the United States that the Supreme Court in the Heller decision has ruled that people do have the right to bear arms.
Most other candidates took the opportunity to emphasize that they supported common sense gun reform either without answering the question directly, or asserting while they want to do what they can to curb gun violence, they dont support taking away peoples guns, either. In an ideal world, nobody would feel the need, said Pete Buttigieg, in what was a fairly typical answer. But I respect the Second Amendment, I respect the desire for people to have the means for self defense, as long as there are common sense measures.'>>>
