Trump gets powerful new rival in Letitia James

Trump gets powerful new rival in Letitia James

By Reid Wilson - 05/02/19 06:00 AM EDT

President Trump has a new and powerful rival in Letitia James, the first woman and the first African American to serve as New York’s attorney general.

In just four months, James (D) has emerged as one of the most aggressive and ambitious litigators in the country.

She’s filed suit against or launched investigations into some of the most dominant special interests in the country, from the opioid manufacturer Purdue Pharma and its owners the Sackler family to the National Rifle Association (NRA) and Facebook.

And she has made clear, from the campaign trail to the courtroom, that she is coming for Trump next.

In recent weeks, James’s office has sought bank records relating to the Trump Organization and its affiliates. She has continued a lawsuit brought by her predecessor against the now-defunct Trump Foundation, alleging violations of federal and state laws governing nonprofits.

Her office has joined or spearheaded some of the dozens of lawsuits against the Trump administration’s most controversial plans, including efforts to add a new question on citizenship status to the 2020 census and a plan to build a wall along the border with Mexico.

“As the next attorney general of [Trump’s] home state, I will be shining a bright light into every dark corner of his real estate dealings, and every dealing, demanding truthfulness at every turn,” James said in November.

And trump will soon be calling her names, and accusing her of criminal activities, and false allegations like he's done to many others. He'll then get Barr to help go after her, using him again as a personal weapon as the AG. trump will also use others to attack her, and accuse her, then release Barr to abuse his powers against her, and obstruct anything they are doing. Barr even suggest the president can shut down any investigation by making up excuses saying he's being falsely accused. That means he can then do anything without oversight if he wants, without any consequences , and do anything he wants as corruptly as he wants without any regard for the law. Barr just showed how corrupt he is by suggesting that, and how he's against the rule of law, and OUR Democracy by saying that.

he has no jurisdiction over state AG's. The only thing is that she is going after civil investigations, from what I understand, not criminal.

But Trump's weapon, now, is an Atty Gen'l scofflaw.

No outcome is certain when the guilty parties have the power to cheat., lie, and obstruct.

I am waiting for her to bring charges against the Trump organization, the Trump children and Trump himself.

Since Trump has taken over the justice department and the US Supreme Court, this may be the only venue where justice can be served.

She talked about "squashing" a subpoena, but the legal term is "quashing." Honestly, she sounded like a lay person to me, not a prosecutor. That could be explained by the fact that she was not a prosecutor before becoming NYAG. She started out as a Public Defender decades ago (she is 60, although looks younger), but only did that for a few years before her long run in political positions. The closest she came to being a prosecutor was when she was appointed the first Assistant Attorney General in charge of the Brooklyn regional office in 1999. While working in that position, James worked in many capacities but notably focused on consumer complaints involving predatory lending and other unlawful business practices. Not sure if that involved actually prosecuting anyone.

But the New York Attorney General's office has many seasoned kickass line prosecutors, and they would be handling the cases against the Trump Crime Family anyway, not her. A state attorney general is rarely actually involved in the day to day litigating of the cases brought by the office. But he/she does choose what to focus office resources on prosecuting. So far, she has made excellent choices.

Forget the 14 Mueller referrals, they are dead, Barr will 100% see to that. However, that fucker can't stop James or NY!!

Go James, fry this motherfucking traitorous criminal and would be destroyer of our country.

The good news is there are no presidential pardons available for state crimes. I hope James has sufficient protection, as Trump's mob friends, especially the Russians can be dangerous.

The Court System, some of the States, and the US House are all that’s standing between us and a far right takeover. We are up against a regime who ignores subpoenas, who are doing their best to protect their bizarre fat mentally impaired boss.

Fat orange Donnie’s tax returns and transactions with Deutsche Bank must be dirty as Hell because they are desperately fighting them being released. He is nothing but a 21st Century mobster.
