Robert Muellers report effectively accused Donald Trump of obstructing justice by witness tampering, one of the offences that led Republicans to impeach Bill Clinton 20 years ago.
Muellers team found Trump repeatedly made efforts to encourage witnesses not to cooperate with the investigation into Russias interference in the 2016 election, the special counsels final report said.
Trump made it known that Paul Manafort, his former campaign chairman, could receive a pardon, according to Mueller. The president also urged Manafort and Michael Cohen, his legal fixer, not to flip and help Muellers inquiry.
In both these cases, Mueller found evidence that Trump acted with the intent of hindering the investigation a necessary component for prosecuting witness tampering and obstruction of justice generally.

Trump did not learn from Nixon! His orange uniform in prison will match his hair LOL..

(51,550 posts)Alas, Trump's and his aides obstruction, evidence destruction and lying worked. Mueller decided he didn't have enough on conspiracy. However, there was evidence of conspiracy, just not enough of it for Mueller's to feel it established conspiracy beyond a reasonable doubt. Mueller's decision to assign $0 value to the Russian help, and thus knocking out the "thing of value" element of the conpiracy, was dead wrong in my opinion. At every turn, Mueller bent over backwards to give Trump and his goons the benefit of the doubt, even though they all lied their asses off to investigators. White man's justice. The guests on AM Joy this morning ripped Mueller for that. As much as we want to look at Mueller as a hero, we have to remember, he is a Republican, with all that implies. Trump sure knows how to work the refs though. Trump kept saying Mueller was biased against him, when by all indications, Mueller did everything to show he was not.
Mueller clearly found obstruction, but punted to Congress on the decision to prosecute.
It is now up to House Democrats (and us) to not let Trump get away with his crimes against America.
The 2020 election is only 18 months away. We must start impeachment hearings without delay.

(6,110 posts)you give him too much credit. The key states which won him electoral margin were PA, WI & MI. Trump spent lot of time there exploiting the rust belt unemploment. He even held rallies there on the mid-night before election. The margin of victory in those states was less than 1% if IRC.
