💙 From the Office of Rep Sharice Davids D-KA
Article from The Kansas City Star:https://www.google.com/amp/amp.kansascity.com/opinion/opn-columns-blogs/steve-rose/article221451665.html
Sharice Davids was the most unlikely of candidates to beat Rep. Kevin Yoder. But that was before Yoder was body-snatched by President Donald J. Trump.
To really grasp how that alliance had morphed two men into almost one big Trump, consider Yoders answer to the final question in the only debate held between the two candidates:
Asked which area of government Yoder thinks should take the biggest cut, his answer was the Environmental Protection Agency.
That budget had already been cut by a third, and the EPAs role in combating climate change had been reduced to almost nothing. Yet Yoder clung to the Trump agenda, even though he knew he was losing moderate Republican voters who were switching to Davids. His answer baffled me, as it did Davids.
The Trump-Yoder axis went much deeper than that one answer. It included voting to repeal Obamacare several times and joining forces to fund the border wall.
It went deep enough that Davids saw no reason to talk much or appear often throughout the campaign.
Instead, she would spend millions of dollars on ads attacking Yoder and the Trump agenda, including health care, but mostly just linking the two together.

..I am the first to admit that little is known about her political philosophy. If she is too far left, it will be goodbye Sharice in the next election in two years. Well know that only after she has cast some critical votes and made her voice heard on key issues.
All we know for now is that she represents a shift from the agenda of Trump and Yoder.
Davids was part of a blue wave in the House.
Her unique background and the trouncing of a bright, up-and-coming Republican leader combined to make this race one of the marquee elections anywhere in America.

DANGEROUS COATS
Someone clever once said
Women were not allowed pockets
In case they carried leaflets
To spread sedition
Which means unrest
To you & me
A grandiose word
For commonsense
Fairness
Kindness
Equality
So ladies start sewing
Dangerous Coats
Made of pockets & sedition

Practical, timeless and refreshing winter white. Very symbolic, pure heart, one of the good ones. It looks nice and love how it projects your intentions without saying a word.
The one wearing a coat. "It was Cold!!"

(67,782 posts)...I sent two contributions. I'm SO glad she won.
If you read her history, she's done so much for the people of Kansas and Nebraska and has been a strong advocate for Native Americans.
Unfortunately, due to her advocacy outside her own area, she was attacked by her primary opponent AND her general election opponent. She took it all in stride, kept to her game plan, and won.
This was a great campaign ad, I think it went a long way to attract voters:

Her fighting spirit in the ring, or in politics is smart, cool, & unrelenting.
She is inspiring to those who meet her.

(42,862 posts)... I imagine that it might be easy for a newbie to give in to the temptation to start showboating and doing outrageous things to grab attention. I'm very glad to see that she's got a good head on her shoulder. She appears to be very dignified and humble... making her constituents her main focus, rather than herself. She's got nothing to "prove" and no scores to settle, no horns to toot. She'll be well-served (as will Kansas) by the serious, thoughtful and focused woman she is.
I like her a lot.

(58,785 posts)I enjoyed Davids's kickboxing commercial, but here's a little something on the only part of Davids that matters to me. She sounds to me like a good, sensible liberal who reflects my goals and ideals so far as this shows. She's obviously no fool, no conservative suckering Democrats with popular messages, and no radical barn-burner.
A: Everyone in America deserves easy access to quality, affordable health care. Medicare for All is a goal and a good slogan. But while we work toward that end, we need immediate solutions for people who are suffering and unable to receive health care right now.
The call to abolish ICE stems from a very real problem and very real pain being inflicted by this agency. We have to address the root of the issues facing our countrys entire immigration system. We should not think of every person who tries to enter our country as a threat.
No president is above the law, and all should always be held accountable for their actions. Before calling for the very serious act of impeachment, I would allow Special Counsel Robert Mueller and the multiple congressional committees investigating President Trump to conclude their proceedings and present definitive evidence that the standards of impeachment have indeed been crossed.
As the only woman to ever serve as speaker of the House, Rep. Nancy Pelosi has shown tremendous leadership of the Democratic party. My focus now is on returning the House to Democratic control. After that happens in November, I look forward to working with the Democratic caucus to select the best leaders to guide us going forward.
My historic campaign is a team effort to unite KS-03, change the face of KS politics and bring opportunity, equality and representation to all.
Diversity. Not just in demographics but in experience. How many of our congressional members have struggled to afford health care? Or had to work their way through college? How many were raised by a single mom or started off at community college? When youre making policy that affects everyone, everyone should have a say in that discussion.
When I was implementing federal policy on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and when I was creating it as a White House Fellow, I saw first-hand the disconnect that exists when decision makers have no connection to the communities theyre impacting. I saw that one new voice can change the entire conversation.
Many of my fellow candidates talk about being a voice for the voiceless. I have built my campaign on the belief that everyone already has their own voice. I hear too many politicians claim to be a voice for women, for minorities, for the LGBTQ community. Thats not what we need. We need a representative who cares about the voices who have already been speaking up and crying out but being ignored for so long. Right now, too many Congress members and candidates dont want to listen they just want to talk. They are decision makers not leaders.
