NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist Poll: Pushing Impeachment Would Backfire On Democrats In 2018
Pledging to impeach President Trump would backfire on Democrats hoping to take back the House of Representatives this fall, according to a new NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll.
The survey finds that 47 percent of registered voters would definitely vote against a candidate who wanted to remove Trump from office, while 42 percent would definitely vote for a candidate who would make such a promise. Forty-seven percent of independent voters whose opinions could be decisive also say they would vote against candidates favoring impeachment.

(6,377 posts)In a wave election like this, is shoot yourself in the foot is the worst thing you can do. Don't do something that's going to drive Trump's base to the polls in a year when their turnout is already depressed, and don't do something that makes moderates turn on you.

(102,494 posts)If they had asked if they would vote for someone who promoted letting the investigation fully run its course and making a decision based on those conclusions, even if it meant impeachment, I'd bet the answer would be quite different.

(52,440 posts)what's off the table is being seen as lusting for impeachment. that's the political trap.
once the facts and evidence are out in the open and the situation *demands* impeachment, then democrats can sign on *reluctantly*. forced into it by the weight of damning evidence, not out of any political goal.
that plays a hell of a lot better than appearing to be rooting for it.
again, it doesn't mean it's off the table, it just means it's not on the table *yet*.
but it sure as hell looks like it'll be worth discussing soon....!

(11,267 posts)Never say it is off the table. Let the investigation run its course and appropriate measures should then be taken which can mean nothing needs to be done.
...but yes...Im very much in favor of impeachment! This administration is unbearable.
