Blair must face charges

Lindsey German
Wednesday 6 July 2016 13.00 EDT

... There was a sense of vindication for those of us who opposed the war from the outset ... The indictment of Blair and those around him is so severe that it must lead to further action. It is unacceptable that he faces no charges or sanction ... For anti-war protesters this is only a partial victory and it is bittersweet. We have marched in our millions, only to be ignored ... Chilcot was devastating in his criticism, but the truth is that many of the points now being made were already being made in 2002 and 2003. This was not a catastrophe that was unforeseen. It was predicted by many, although probably none of us realised how bad the situation in Iraq would become. The truth also is that Chilcot would not have happened without a continuing anti-war movement ...

From Article 8 of the Rome Statute:

For the purpose of this Statute, “crime of aggression” means the planning, preparation, initiation or execution, by a person in a position effectively to exercise control over or to direct the political or military action of a State, of an act of aggression which, by its character, gravity and scale, constitutes a manifest violation of the Charter of the United Nations.
