Bobby Jindal to Westboro Baptist Church activists "They better not try that nonsense here"
July 26, 2015
On Face the Nation today, host John Dickerson asked Louisiana Gov. Piyush "Bobby" Jindal about the possibility of the Westboro Baptist Church disrupting funeral services tomorrow for victims of the mass shooting last Thursday at the Lafayette, Louisiana theater.
DICKERSON:
"Let me ask you a last question about that funeral service tomorrow.
The Westboro Baptist Church, which has disrupted other funerals in the past, is threatening to do so again.
What can you do to keep them away?"
JINDAL:
"If they come to Louisiana, they try to disrupt this funeral, we're going to lock them up.
We're going to arrest them...They shouldn't try that in Louisiana...We won't abide by that here.....Let these families grieve.....Let them celebrate their daughters, their children, their spouses, their loved ones' lives in peace....They better not try that nonsense here."

(27,884 posts)because they are cowards at heart, and probably won't want to risk getting arrested.
(but that's just my guess).
Piyush Jindal is as much a "whack job" as they are, IMO.

(50,569 posts)The whole Westboro Baptist Cult monetization process starts when someone violates their civil rights by locking them in jail, hitting them, towing their van away...When those people came to my town, we worked very hard to keep the populace away from the cultists to prevent them from having anything to sue over.

(27,884 posts)Did that actually happen?
Was it towed away while they were busy disrupting a funeral?

(50,569 posts)They went to McAlester OK to make asses of themselves. While doing that, both tires on the passenger side were slashed. (You can google this; there are tons of links each funnier than the last.) No one in town would help them, so they had to drive on the rims until they got far enough from McAlester that AAA would send a rollback to pick them up.
Where it gets sick: A little while later, three little girls were burned to death in an RV accident. That worthless asshole and his put-on-the-Earth-to-make-the-Palins-look-good family threatened to picket the girls' funeral as the Phelpses said the deaths were God's retribution against Oklahoma for damaging Fred's van.
Why do I get the feeling if someone were to commit an act of extreme violence against the Phelps cult, the investigation would be short and inconclusive?

(50,569 posts)They know exactly where the line is drawn, at least as far as the law is concerned, and go exactly that far.
The real worry for the Phelpses, however, isn't the majesty of the law. It's that one of the people they're abusing is going to commit a significant act of violence against them (like...oh, I don't know, maybe waiting until they leave the state for one of their demonstrations then burning down every structure on the block in Topeka they own) and The Authorities will refuse to lift a finger to help.
