New ‘anti-rape’ jeans to combat abuse crisis in India

Two Indian women have designed a new line of anti-rape jeans which send distress signals to local police in the event of a sexual assault, the British daily the Daily Mail reported Thursday.
The collection, which was created by Siksha Pathak and Anjali Srivastava, aims to help in the fight against the growing number of sexual harassment incidents in the worlds largest democracy.

(10,597 posts)... the police won't come. Now if it was a fog horn sound, or better yet, a siren, that would work better. When you hear a siren near you, what do you do? You look to see where the siren is coming from and what the eff is going on, no?

(10,597 posts)... I seen a documentary on this subject recently and was led to believe that the police are very sexist and don't believe it a crime, so going to the police is fruitless. That's why I think a siren would be better at drawing attention and stopping a rape that is about to happen. Unless those pants have a GPS in them and are very near a police station, they won't do no good.
Now maybe if all women in India start wearing regular jeans underneath their saris, men will think they are bugged and leave them alone?

(9,126 posts)I'm now wondering if there was something that could be caustic to an attacker, a penis repellant if you will. And I'm not kidding. Rape is a heinous, soul shattering crime with light consequences compared to the damage it causes. Perhaps the thought of the loss of his favorite body part might work.
