Hillary Clinton On Gun Control: We Can't Let 'A Minority Of People' Terrorize The Majority
Source: Huffington Post
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke about her views on gun control Tuesday, saying she was "disappointed" Congress did not pass a universal background checks bill after "the horrors" of the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
"I believe that we need a more thoughtful conversation, we cannot let a minority of people -- and that's what it is, it is a minority of people -- hold a viewpoint that terrorizes the majority of people," Clinton said during a CNN town hall.
Clinton said she feels for parents sending their kids to school, noting that there have been 74 school shootings since Sandy Hook.
"I don't think any parent, any person, should have to fear about their child going to school or going to college because someone, for whatever reasons -- psychological, emotional, political, ideological, whatever it means -- could possibly enter that school property with an automatic weapon and murder innocent children, students, teachers," Clinton said.

(33,982 posts)But honestly, saying 'only 15' is not exactly something to cheer about. It's still fifteen vicious, armed attacks upon schools.

They'll say something like:
" 'Automatic' isn't the same as 'semi-automatic', which means guns aren't a threat, which means school shootings don't really happen, which means school kids aren't as important as my 50-piece arsenal. God bless America!"
I applaud her, too.

(54,770 posts)to them for that reason. Policy makers really don't need to know any more than that, unless they want to coddle some of the poor , pitiful gun fanciers.

(33,982 posts)I withdraw my tone there. I am oft-identified as a member of the gun crowd to some degree, but I can see which post you meant to reply to now.
No worries.

Go away, learn English, realize that you are a member of a society, and please, try to get a brain, Moran!

(95,337 posts)Mind you, I respect that there are those people who need to carry these weapons and usually they wear uniforms that identify they have reason to carry such weapons. Like they wear an OFFICIAL military uniform, or a police uniform or the uniform of a security team. Most of the time these people do not carry anything bigger than a handgun into local businesses. They know that they do not need auto-matic waepons with huge magazines in order to buy a cup of coffee.
But if I see anyone who just randomly strolls into a public business (other than a gun store) and they are carrying a huge rifle, I will assume they are terrorists. These people are instilling fear into other customers and to me that is the definition of fear

(28,283 posts)I've said it before, and I'll keep saying it: Anybody who finds the licensed concealed carry of firearms insufficient and feels compelled to resort to open carry, is exhibiting the exact traits which should prohibit their possessing guns at all.
And no, open carry bullies, "Goddammit, because the law SAYS I can!" is not an adequate justification for such thuggish behavior.

(14,779 posts)She did NOT said she was for restricting any actual ownership of any weapon. In fact you can make a case that if the Supreme Court would rule the ban on civilians owning automatic weapons (except those made and owned by Civilians prior to 1986) is unconstitutional, Hillary would support that decision. i.e. Hillary would support the right to own automatic weapons by civilians.
On the other hand universal background checks has support even in areas of widespread gun ownership, thus it is a very safe position to take on the issue of gun control. She does NOT turn off to many voters in the swing states of Pennsylvania and states to its West (i.e. The American Mid West) but at the same time strengthens her hands in the more urban areas along the West Coast and the Atlantic Coasts.

(18,874 posts)I don't want to walk into the grocery store and see people walking around with AK47s. I don't care if people own guns and I don't care if they go home and masturbate with them.
I don't want to see them in public places. I don't want to go into a restaurant and see guns hanging off the seats.

Guns are tools and should be used as such.
People with huge ego problems should go buy a Harley if they need to prove to the world that they have big balls. I am completely sick of that whole attitude.

(23,664 posts)When some NRA type points out that no automatic weapons were used in any recent school shootings and she then realizes that she has unknowingly pissed off a large bloc of potential voters she can then reiterate that she was only referring to fully automatic weapons.
When the shit hits the fan, she'll backtrack. She always has.
