Rick Perry questions gay therapy

Source: The Hill

June 16, 2014, 11:48 am

Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) said Monday he is not sure if gay reparative therapy works and it is a question better left up to psychologists.

"I don't know," he told CNBC when asked if the therapy can change a person's sexual orientation. "The fact is we will leave that up to the psychologists and the doctors."

Perry made the comments after receiving criticism last week for using alcoholism as an analogy to explain homosexuality. Perry said people might be predisposed to a certain thing but they can choose not to do it.

Perry deflected when asked about his comments, calling it a contentious issue.

So Rick Perry is admitting it didn't work - For HIM? I know I know - it's rotten. But there's something fishy about all of these homophobic right wing men who spout this shit off. Then you look at their religious upbringing - and it makes me wonder?

Why don't they just all be themselves. Because the hatred towards the GLBT community is beginning to make me think these are deeply closeted self-hating people.

In the GLBT community -

The only person I remember ever being THAT strident and hateful towards gay men when I was at University - came out of the closet 10 years ago or so.

And let's face it - this is a hateful hate we are seeing from the Right towards human beings who just are what they are - no different than me.

It's just hateful. And I'm sick of it.

So I'm throwing shade and side eyes on a go forward basis.

what "normal" person spends their time preoccupied with others sexual affairs, straight, gay ... it just gets really weird to me, these individuals that always have their nose in someones genitals and shouting with loud megaphones about people/groups.

"The fact is we will leave that up to the psychologists and the doctors."

If he is actually doing that then he should have no problem saying flat out that "gay therapy" does not work and may in fact be harmful for young people, because that is what the psychologists and doctors say. Not being willing to say that is pandering to the homophobes.

It has never been proven to do a damned thing, and purports to "cure" what isn't illness. It is a scam that preys on those made most vulnerable by institutionalized homophobia.

into their private 'for profit' pockets.

Then, in future they will whine,"America can't afford massive healthcare costs of ACA, so everyone must pay more in co-pays"

This 'cure the gay' talking point, and their recent try to pass laws where gay treatments can not be canceled or opposed is another 'for profit' dirty trick. We need to shut it down now,

or Gay Treatment Clinics of America, will be just like the 'for profit' prisons and private ' tax voucher stealing' schools & the war profiteers. We will lose billions of our taxpayer State and Federal funds to them.
