DUBLIN, Ohio (AP) Hall of Fame golfer Phil Mickelson confirmed that FBI agents investigating insider trading approached him this week at the Memorial Tournament. The five-time major champion said Saturday he has done "absolutely nothing wrong."
A federal official briefed on the investigation told The Associated Press the FBI and Securities and Exchange Commission are analyzing trades Mickelson and Las Vegas gambler Billy Walters made involving Clorox at the same time activist investor Carl Icahn was attempting to take over the company. When Icahn's intent became public, the stock price jumped.
The official was unauthorized to speak about the investigation and spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity. Reports of the investigation appeared in several newspapers, including the Wall Street Journal.
Smiling as he stood before a room packed with reporters and cameras, Mickelson said the case had not been a distraction until FBI agents approached him after his opening round Thursday.

(12,647 posts)He is such a right wing jerk. Remember when he complained about paying, what, 1% more in taxes when Obama ended part of the Bush tax cuts on the wealthy? Poor multi-multi millionaire. I'd love to see him indicted.

(8,200 posts)Just like Martha Stewart, his appetite for wealth has no limit. It doesn't even make good sense that he would jeopardize his status. I can only hope that if he is guilty that he suffers the same fate as Martha. Perhaps she could decorate a his jail cell to make his stay more comfortable.
That's when I gave up watching pro golf.
Bunch of rich pampered cry babies.
Many of them living in Florida to escape state taxes.

(999 posts)Phil Mickelson is one of the nicest guys on the tour. If his schedule allows it he will often sign autographs for an hour after he has turned his score card in. He is polite to the gallery and when an errant shot of his hits a spectator he gives them the Rolex that he wears during each round. He has dealt with both his wife and mother being diagnosed with breast cancer at the same time. Yes he made the statement but he is also a business man. Golf is game that must be learned and is never mastered. You have to do the work yourself and it takes tremendous dedication and sacrifice to get where he has gotten. You go out and compete against the Top 144 players in the world and see how you fair. If he knowingly was involved with an inside trading deal than he should be punished.
