David Dewhurst Calls Police To Try & Free Relative
Source: CBS
On August 3rd, four hours after Ellen Bevers was arrested at an Allen grocery store for allegedly shoplifting more than $50 worth of items, the Allen Police Department received a call from Bevers uncle Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst.
In an audio recording of the phone call CBS 11 News obtained from the Allen Police Department, Dewhurst could be heard saying, This is David Dewhurst, the Lieutenant Governor of the State of Texas, and I want to talk to your senior officer who is there at your department right now.
The sergeant explained to Dewhurst the charge was a class B misdemeanor, and Bevers would be transferred to the Collin County Sheriffs Office to be arraigned.
Dewhurst then could be heard asking for the county judges cell phone number.

(28,498 posts)He asked for the judge's cell phone number! Do all concerned relatives bypass the police and ask to speak to the judge when their loved ones are arrested? What was he going to speak to the judge about?
And why use his title? Why not identify himself as simply the arrestee's uncle?
C'mon, folks! Wake up!!!

(15,224 posts)Dewhurst couldn't even get the officer's name after multiple attempts by the officer to give him the correct spelling, etc.
The officer remained cool, calm and collected and I loved it when he wouldn't give out his supervisor's cell phone.
