(204 posts)Not sure how this happened...actually I am the author and I wrote the headline which is all the more confusing. I looked at it a million times. I see my editor made some changes but i can't imagine her missing that or making the change. Oh well, I updated. Thanks again for pointing out.

(7,575 posts)The lack of respect and the arrogance of Repubs inside that Senate filibuster are equally disgusting. The whole lot needs to be VOTED OUT sooner rather than later.
How can we wake people up to what is really going on??????
Abortion is such a hot issue, and otherwise reasonable people just cannot get past the surface of the topic, and realize how women are being treated. Wendy Davis is a real hero.

(9,644 posts)Not really a knock on texas, this can happen in most any statehouse. I think all statehouses should be open to the public period. Also, the public should be allowed to speak and voice discontent - damn the decorum. Decorum is simply a dilettantes way of suppressing the will and voice of the people. Then they hire their armed thugs to drag you out so they don't get your flesh and blood under their fingernails.

(15,224 posts)I find his treatment of Ms. Northington completely out of line. It is obvious by the video that, although she was surprised at the fact that she's being arrested, she was trying to cooperate.
I'm 54 and I don't move as fast as I did when I was 25. It would be appropriate and would be common sense for a level-headed state trooper to give a 72 year old woman a few seconds to stand and move, particularly knowing that the woman had been in a sitting position for some time. His yanking her up and around is unbecoming for a trooper with the Department of Public Safety of Texas.
How much does anyone want to bet that the trooper votes Republican?

I truly hope your grandmother never receives similar treatment. Or finds out what you did.

(118,379 posts)"He jerked me out of my chair and started pushing me up the stairs. My feet were being dragged and I said wait a minute turn me loose, I'll walk," says Northington. In the arrest report, the trooper claims she slapped him. She says that never happened.

... Northington, whose charges were reduced from a felony to a Class A and Class C misdemeanor, said she was encouraging others in the gallery to be quiet during the proceedings before an officer removed and handcuffed her. Upon arriving at the jail, she said, a nurse sent her to the hospital to receive pain medication for her arm. She then spent the night in jail, leaving shortly after noon on Wednesday ...
