Michael Mancil Brown Charged in Mitt Romney's Tax Return Scheme
Source: Associated Press, Huffington Post
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A Tennessee man was charged Wednesday in a scheme involving former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney's income tax returns during the 2012 campaign.
The U.S. Justice Department said a federal grand jury in Nashville indicted Michael Mancil Brown, 34, of Franklin, and charged him with six counts of wire fraud and six counts of extortion.
Brown is accused of having an anonymous letter delivered to the PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP accounting firm in Franklin last August, demanding that $1 million in digital currency be deposited to a Bitcoin account to keep some of Romney's income tax returns from being released. The Justice Department said Brown falsely claimed that he had gained access to the PricewaterhouseCoopers internal computer network and stolen tax documents for Romney and his wife, Ann Romney, for tax years before 2010
The letter said interested parties who wanted the purportedly stolen returns released could contribute $1 million to another Bitcoin account. Bitcoin is a hard-to-trace form of electronic cash.

The worst part is the tax returns never came out.

(8,821 posts)So this stupid clown goes to jail, and Willard Romney doesn't even get interviewed about the methods he used to avoid paying any taxes on millions of his income? Proving once again that the rich do write our laws.

(12,882 posts)Rmoney essentially extorts BILLIONS from US citizens, and gets off with that snarky, little cackle of his. This dumb schmuck tries the same thing - without a cadre of lawyers and swiss cheese tax laws - and gets nailed. How long before this all-seeing surveillance we're learning about facilitates us being "shook down" for all our loose change???

(9,478 posts)a lapsed Mormon. He has a website for his defense fund. In it he lists the warrant and the list of items taken, returned, and returned damaged. Pictures of what the house looked like after the raid, copy of extortion letter is with the warrant.
In what they confiscated, it includes a Book of Mormon. This guy was supposedly an Obama supporter. I wonder if something went wrong with the Mormon church and he went off the reservation.
It also seems he may have gotten the tax returns. The warrant lists tax information for the Romneys. In the inventory of seized items, they give specific details on everything. Everything except item 17, it just says miscellaneous documents.
Here's the website if anyone is curious

(17,656 posts). . . according to Larry Flynt.
Flynt told Larry King on his program on Monday night on oga.tv that he has collected evidence that proves that Romney purposely under stated his net wealth to the American public last year while he was running for President to make it appear as if he was less rich than he really is.
At one point in time, Romney said in an off-hand remark that he was worth less than $250 million.
Later reports estimated that Romney's net worth was more than $300 million.
However, even later reports said he could be hiding much more money in offshore accounts than anyone had previously estimated, and that he may be worth as much as $700 million.
Flynt said that what he has found out since last year about Romney is that Romney knew that being a billionaire would never go over with the general public during the campaign, so he refused to release his latest tax returns.
Flynt told King that he had collected evidence that puts Romney's net worth well over the billion dollar mark.

(7,805 posts)I have no idea why Larry Flynt's team quashed the story I gave them
(especially since I informed them - long before Taibbi discussed some of the issues reported in "Greed & Debt"
His intake gal (on Flynt Tipline - Ms Cheng) - always seemed to be in space.
So, I went to Hustler Casino and obtained the Editor's number (Mr. Johnson) - and his email.
He asked questions - I gave them proof (including the iron clad documents about Off Shore in the Billions of Sankaty, Bermuda).
Why they play these frigg'n games (especially when the evidence is ALL from public records
really vexes me terribly!

- - I used to get invited to Larry's house for his weekly private game - before owning Hustler Casino changed all that. Most people haven't noticed that in the film about Larry Flynt - where Woody Harrison does such a wonderful job
Larry Flynt is the JUDGE!
I guess, in order to be and stay a billionaire - you have to sell out like the rest of them.

(7,805 posts)who reported (in Greed & Debt) - the issues of Michael Glazer/ Kay Bee and (part) of the Stage Stores debacle.
But - WITHHELD - the whole story (such as the fact that Glazer was AT Stage Stores too).
So that Rolling Stone could bump Matt's salary and the magazine would get those "exclusive" interviews;
with VP Biden and POTUS Obama.
IT ALL SUCKS - as he is supposed to be the one we can count on.....
