UN warns more arms in Syria mean more war crimes
Source: The Associated Press
Arming Syrians fighting on either side of the countrys bloody conflict could lead to more war crimes, the head of the UN commission investigating human rights abuses in Syria warned Friday.
Paulo Pinheiro stopped short of directly criticizing the United States or other nations arming Syrians, saying the commission does not comment on decisions by governments. But his remarks came about a week after President Barack Obama authorized sending weapons to rebels for the first time.
Crimes that shock the conscience have become reality ...We emphasize that there is a devastating human cost to the availability of weapons and that there is also a political cost, Mr. Pinheiro said. Weapons fuel the parties illusion that they can win this war, pulling them farther into battle and away from the negotiating table.
In its report, the commission also found there were reasonable grounds to believe that limited quantities of toxic chemicals had been used as weapons in at least four attacks in Syrias civil war, but that more evidence was needed to determine the precise chemicals agents used, or who used them.

(532 posts)Both of which has already been decided. Somehow I doubt Obama would go back on his decision to officially arm the rebels were it found out that it was them who used chemical weapons. Emphasis on officially, since that's what the US has been doing since late 2012 anyway.

(2,730 posts)that I was reading sources from their news media. They have a report out in the media, in Lebanon, accusing Qatari intelligence officers transferring chemical weapons to Al Nuesra through Turkey. They accuse Erdogen of a coverup. The Russians have been demanding him to release the information about a bust, the Turkish security forces made on an Al Nuesra terrorists' plot suspects were planning to carry out near the Turkish border. You remember the bombings carried out on the Turkish side, and an investigation followed by the Turks?
Both the Russians and Syria also have their intelligence operatives following Terrorists. I'm pretty sure people should know that after the Boston bombings. The Russians claim Terrorists from Russia also are fighting in Syria. They probably have information the U.S. don't have about who is fighting in Syria. It is not just one Terrorist group. The U.S. could also be training Terrorists, without even knowing it.
