Source: Russia Today
Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi said Egypt has decided to cut all ties with Syria starting Saturday and withdraw the envoy from Damascus, Reuters reported. Syria's embassy in Cairo is also to be closed.
"We have decided to close down the Syrian embassy in Cairo," said Morsi during a conference of Sunni Muslim clerics in support of the Syrian uprising at Cairo Indoor Stadium, according to local newspaper Ahram online. "The Egyptian envoy in Damascus will also be withdrawn."
The President added that Hezbollah, the Shiite Islamic militant group based in Lebanon, must leave Syria, adding "these are serious words".
"We stand against Hezbollah in its aggression against the Syrian people," he said. "There is no space or place for Hezbollah in Syria.

Morsi better watch his own back because his people don't love him too much either.

(59,510 posts)The danger is more that Syria is increasing becoming Sunni ( moderates, AQ, Quatar, Jordan, Saudi Arabia - and the western allies - a strange mix) and Shiite (Assad, Hezbollah, Iran - and Russia). Somehow, it would be better if the Western countries, Russia and the various moderates on either side could unite and form a government and kick the other out. Pretty hard to imagine happening, but everything else would be a nightmare.

(16,106 posts)The real fight is between the Sunni and the Shia...a fight that has been on the back burner for decades if not longer. And the US is becoming involved, not because it's concerned about the people of Syria or democracy...but because it wants to bring down Hezbollah and Iran.

(2,730 posts)still in Assad's Government, military and population supporting him, just who do they represent to you? The Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt and Morsi, is bad news, when they obtained power. They now control Hamas. Now all these people or extremists from Egypt will converge on Syria.
And here is something for the West and you to consider. The Egyptian military armed by the Western, is now systematically coming under the control of Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood. He has secretly been replacing and retiring Generals, with commanders of his own liking. So go ahead, keep arming the snake until it bites you.

(59,510 posts)In fact, I was arguing that it was extremely bad. Morsi does not "control" Hamas - in fact, there have been some conflicts at the border.
I am NOT in favor of arming Syria or Egypt - and tons of other countries.

(2,730 posts)that influenced them to stop throwing their little missiles at Israel. So I figured he must have some influence with them. Now hamas turned on the hand that was feeding them. So I just connected the dots and figured Morsi and his Muslim Brotherhood must have had something to do with it. They promised Hamas something to call a truce with Israel. I smell a snake at work.
So I'm looking at his power grabbing and what he is secretly doing with the Egyptian military to gain their loyalty. I wouldn't trust Morsi, if I was the U.S. or Israel. Just keep supplying this snake with American technology. I wouldn't be surprised if Morsi does a complete 180 and cut the U.S. loose when it suits those clerics and the Muslim Brotherhood, once the U.S. does the dirty work of getting rid of the Shiites.
