(NEW YORK) -- ... In an attempt to learn secret financial information, Snowden alleged that undercover CIA agents would get the banker drunk and encourage him to drive home in his car. When the banker was eventually arrested for drunk driving, the CIA operatives offered to help him out of the jam, paving the way for recruitment as a source ...
A spokesperson for Switzerlands Federal Department of Foreign Affairs told ABC News the department had taken note of Snowdens claims and has sent a diplomatic note to the U.S. Embassy in Bern asking for clarification of the matter.
In accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, Switzerland expects the members of the diplomatic missions in Bern and the members of the permanent mission in Geneva to comply with the laws and rules of the country of residence, a statement from the foreign ministry read.
At the time of the alleged incident, Snowden said he was working undercover for the CIA in Geneva, maintaining computer network security. The CIA has declined to comment on Snowdens case, but the Swiss foreign ministry confirmed that he publicly held the position of an attaché with the permanent U.S. mission in Geneva from March 2007 to February 2009 ...

(21,024 posts)This certainly adds credibility to Snowden's resume and his charges. He's not just some dude who lucked into a cushy job with NSA.

(59,507 posts)Unless the banker was American, how could the US help him out of a "jam". Not to mention, it would not seem that the embassy would be able to get charges eliminated for drunk driving - which is taken seriously in Europe. You would think that would be hard to do without offering that the banker would leave the country. I can't imagine it would leave him in good standing working at the bank.

You know what... I can attack him all I want. He's a slimeball just like Assange.

(18,998 posts)And call him a slime ball?...yep we have free speech.
But reading other threads here has made it clear to me that we have our authoritarians too, and they differ from the right only in what party they say they support...but both hate people that question authority or when they squeal on the authorities when they do wrong.

(41,832 posts)I never said anything personal toward you.
You have to admit though that there are many Obama haters here. And I know that some never voted for him.
But actually my feelings toward Snowden and slamming him now are because of the latest revelation.

(18,998 posts)The problem is with black and white thinkers is that ether you are for Obama or against him....the athoratarian postion on everything.
And if anyone says any word of crtiazem against him you tag him or her as a hater...you cannot understand any other way of thinking than that.
And I read that...so fucking what?...he is barganing for his life, and if people like you have their way he will be murdered to shut him up because the end justifys the means.
