Nelson Mandela 'responding better to treatment' - Zuma

South Africa's former leader Nelson Mandela is "responding better" to treatment in hospital, President Zuma says.

Mr Zuma said he was happy with the progress being made by Mr Mandela after a "difficult few days".

The 94-year-old is spending his fifth day in a Pretoria hospital suffering from a recurrent lung infection.

Relatives, including his ex-wife Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, visited the ailing former leader on Tuesday.

he is nearing the end.

There will be real tears of sorrow when he dies. He saved a nation and showed us a better way.

I often notice during the final phase of the death bed cycle that there is a peaceful upswing for a day or two just prior to the departure. It seems nature provides us with a farewell closure break for friends, family and the departing soul.
