Building collapses in Philadelphia
Source: CNN
As many as 10 people are believed to be trapped in the rubble of a building that collapsed Wednesday morning in Philadelphia, city Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers said, according to CNN affiliate WPVI.
The four-story building collapsed at the corner of 22nd and Market streets in Philadelphia's Center City area, WPVI reported.
The fire department was called to the site at 10:43 a.m., Capt. Jeffrey Thompson told CNN. Thompson said it wasn't immediately clear whether it was an apartment building or an adjacent building scheduled for demolition.

(129,794 posts)They said that Market is closed between 21st - 30th. Alot of folks use Market to get to 21st to get down to the Parkway and the Schulkyll expressway entrance.
Edit to add that the Mayor just said that the area that is closed is now 18th --> 30th and the Parkway --> Walnut.
Hope the folks who were trapped and injured will be okay.
One of the reporters did mention the "adult theater" down further along Market (I remember when it used to be a XXX theater... ).

(129,794 posts)I work at the opposite end of the city and usually head down Spring Garden to get to the Parkway/drives.
I expect they are gentrifying like mad around there. It's like eye candy for the developers focusing on and constructing in the Art Museum/Fairmount area. And the Salvation Army building was right on a key corner.
Hate to do this but -->

Drinking Liberally Philly is just five streets away on Tuesdays.

(36,309 posts)report 1 dead, 1 trapped, another source says 2 dead. 13 injured.
Apparently a wall of the 4-story building being demolished fell onto another, 2-story, building.

Video at the link -- interview w/fire chief, mayor, apparently already a little out of date.
