Report: Some 20 baseball players may face suspension in doping scandal
Source: CNN
Major League Baseball is set to suspend some 20 players in the coming weeks due to a scandal involving performance-enhancing drugs, according to an ESPN report.
The network says it is potentially the worst drug abuse case in the history of baseball.
The league declined to comment to CNN, but confirmed that an investigation is in the works.
Baseball's highest-paid player, New York Yankee Alex "A-Rod" Rodriguez, as well as Ryan Braun of the Milwaukee Brewers are among those facing suspension, ESPN said, citing unnamed sources.

Well, here's a non-Benghazi/IRS/wiretapping scandal. Expect THIS baseball story to take over the commercial media when the sun comes up.

(6,001 posts)as lomg as a doctor proscribes it steroids aren't illegal so no jail time.
And they can't be fired because their collective bargaining agreement has specific penalties written into it for PED's.

From the sound of things, this could take awhile before anything is decided. I watched last night's game for a bit, and the fans reacted with normal cheers when Jhonny came up to bat.

(3,078 posts)... that MLB started putting some teeth into the enforcement of their rules. The only performance enhancing compound that athletes should be allowed to use is Gatorade. All sports have their abusers: Biking has Armstrong, Football had Alzado(and look what happened to him, his horrific death of brain cancer due to steroid abuse). There was a time when good genes, talent and desire is what created pro athletes. Now days, it is about how to get a hold of PED's, horse steroids and so on. That is cheating. A great window upon what this nation has become.
BTW, those 20 MBL players are looking at 50 or 100 game suspensions. Not sure if it is with or without pay.

(37,549 posts)Before the Rangers moved to the Cactus League, we saw them play the Yanks at Tampa. Beautiful day, had a beer and something fried on a stick.
Had seats down the third-base line. There's A-Rod, taking field practice. At the same moment the crappy 80's song on the sound system ended, A-Rod let a grounder go through his ankles.
My then-husband shouted "JETER WOULD HAVE HAD THAT!!" I swear the entire stadium heard him and started clapping.
A-Rod flinched, and looked visibly riled as the rest of third-base side started jeering. The sound system resumed--and you could hear the dials turning the noise up. People came up to shake my husband's hand. One of the proudest days he ever had as a Yankee fan.
