Biden says he's 'happy' to debate Trump

Source: The Hill

President Biden indicated Friday that he’s willing to debate former President Trump ahead of November’s election. “I am, somewhere. I don’t know when, but I am happy to debate him,” Biden told Howard Stern on his radio show when asked about the prospect.

Stern suggested to Biden that if he were standing on a stage next to Trump, he would say to the audience, “Find me 11,000 votes so I can win the election,” a reference to a phone call Trump made to Georgia’s secretary of state after losing the 2020 election. “What are we debating?” Stern asked rhetorically, adding that he was astonished so many Americans still supported the former president.

Biden joined Stern, the nationally recognized shock jock, for a live interview Friday in his New York City studio. Biden and his campaign have largely avoided directly addressing the prospect of debates with Trump, even as the former president has insisted he will debate Biden as many times as possible before November’s election.

There are three presidential debates scheduled for the 2024 cycle, beginning in September, as well as one vice presidential debate scheduled.

8. This was a warm-up. Eventually he'll talk to them before the election.

Who he talks to is TBD. Not Peter Baker. Maybe take on nepo baby AG Sulzberger directly? Or talk to a "friendly" Op-Ed columnist: Bruni, Bouie, Goldberg, Collins?

3. I think this is a mistake on Biden's part to debate Trump.

Trump won’t debate, he will lie, lie and lie about the lie.

That man lies as he speaks and lies so quickly you can’t keep up.

You can’t debate a liar because there are no common grounds for facts and you are always trying to explain why there last comment was a lie - and they are already on to another lie.

5. I think the possibility of trump being able to debate anyone come September is nil.

Besides, trump won't want to share the stage with Biden.

There are 4 trials and even if 2 don't happen before the election, there will still be status hearings, etc.

1) televised on PBS with agreed upon moderators
2) no live audience
3) mute button to silence those who talk over others
4) debaters seated in chairs.

the debaters say (and what they don't say).

Just a disgusting circus for ratings.

given the extreme danger that *rump put Biden in during their last "debate", I'd insist on clear "rooms" for them to stand side by side in. Or, at the very least, a very tall... very wide... wall. After all, rump loves walls, right? I just don't trust rump to not try something to hurt Biden.

As far as the debate... what "debate?" rump is already so far into his cups with dementia, he can't put a single sentence together on his own and have it make sense. You can't debate word salad... all you can do is point it out as being "word salad" and then make your own salient points!

If anything he could "debate" shit stain separately. They could be asked the same questions and given ample time to answer. It would be fun to watch trump stammer and babble to give a intelligent answer without going into rally mode. Same time different day on prime time TV. That way each could present their plan/policy without interruption. You know trump can't behave even when on stage by himself.

A former President running against an incumbent President -- everybody knows what those men will do, what they stand for.

I'd bet a debate right around the time he's cracking would get a lot more people watching than would otherwise. Biden has everything to run on, and trump has nothing to run against. trump's tricks are stale, his antics predictable, and his bellowing becoming old-hat really fast in our 24-hour interest cycles.

I don;t see an upside for trump. I don't see a downside for Biden. And maybe a few new citizens would start tuning into what's happening.
