NEW YORK -- A pro-Palestinian encampment at NYU was cleared out by police Monday night, resulting in several arrests.
The NYPD moved in on the demonstration at Gould Plaza near the Stern School of Business just after 8:15 p.m. and started taking down tents and making arrests.
CBS New York's Dan Rice reported at least two dozen demonstrators being taken to four police buses. While that was happening, protesters started throwing objects in the direction of police officers.
"We stand with Palestine and we stand with the liberation of all people," one protester said.

A NY POST article says that Faculty members attempted to block the police movement. When I was an NYC Faculty member, I would not have joined them.

(30,760 posts)to the extent they can get away with it. That "from the river to the sea" crap is a good example. I had someone IRL tell me that the meaning of "from the river to the sea" has changed. Bull. Shit. It is anti-semitic. It is a back-door way to promote the idea of getting rid of Jews.
I got threats from someone here for saying "the so-called country of Palestine." Be careful. You may get mass-alerted. Of course Palestine is not a country.

(7,382 posts)... by how so many progressives are taken in by this line of argument. It's like taking a the broad context of this conflict in to account just doesn;t matter. They've adopted the "palestinians are victims" hard position.
Not that Israel, especially under Likud has done the, selves any favors. I'm up to my eyeballs in frustration.
But I will say that I will not tolerate guests in this country harrassing U.S. Citizens. If they are here on Visa and cannot behave in accordance with the rules, they should be required to leave. They do not have the right to come here and spew hate, however justified they think it is.

(2,182 posts)Jewish protesters at Columbia support movement, say antisemitism is being weaponized against them
By Doha Madani
Three students from Barnard College, Columbia University's sister school, spoke to reporters today in support of pro-Palestinian protesters, saying their own stories of being Jewish anti-Zionists are being ignored.
One Iranian Jewish student, Lea, has been suspended and noted that she and fellow students "proudly put everything we have on the line, because our vision is unclouded." She said she saw the same trauma and pain of her own family reflected in the plight of Palestinians, moving her to join the protest.
"More than 15 Jewish students were arrested, suspended and evicted as punishment for protesting on their own campus," said Lea, a student who identified by first name only. "For singing songs of love and liberation for Columbia's divestment and a free Palestine."

And he was standing with "liberation of all people". Liberation from what? What kind of liberation does he have in mind for "all people"? Think about the implied meaning of this phrase. Perhaps the sarcasm smilie is not warranted after all.

Ukrainians. They NEVER protest genocide Putin or mention Ukraine.
Or all the genocidal atrocities in countries of black people?
Sure makes it hard to not believe Putin could be behind these pro Palestinian Folks.
Putin, Trump and Bibi want world control. And are working in unison to make the trump portion happen.
Have we heard a word from them about GQP saying they want to wipe Gaza clean. And Kushner making beach front billionaire Condos?
No, just Genocide Joe.
And they want to wipe out Jews.

(8,794 posts)Of the violence they are showing now. I know what my eyes tell me. Say it
Ukrainian children, kidnapped and spread all through Russian. The leading nation of ped atrocities. (As per documented information read by Thom Hartmann)
Show me one damn Ukraine flag at any of the Jewish hate rallies.
And it started in full volume BEFORE Israel responded.
Thats all I will say about it. Kushner has plans, and GQP far righters want to nuke Palestine. Whos more Putin than them. But Genocide Joe!
If they would say a word about Ukraine Children as well as Palestinian, I would believe their protests to be more sincere.
What I see now, is white right Nationalist Jewish hate, well funded. And its all Bidens faught.
Sounds pretty GQP Russian political ware fare to me.
And as a Vietnam Era Veteran, I have seen children blown apart. And my generation were in the streets, facing live gun fire from our on damn government. Ohio.
All I am saying is protest ALL civilian slaughter from bull shit wars.
We have been a contributor to many many children killed for bull shit wars.

(2,372 posts)I mean, the protest signs would have to be the size of a times Square billboard.
I admit I have never joined a protest against Russias invasion of Ukraine. Does that somehow make me a bad person, even though I support ukraines fight? I mean, I haven't even seen an anti- Russia protest, probably because Biden is doing the right thing by sending them aid.

(285 posts)I can believe the protesters have the desire to see an end to the violence in Gaza and/or the West Bank. But why protest at these universities?
The faculty and administration do not have the authority to create a ceasefire, or to cause peace negotiations to happen, or to reshape US and Israeli policies. So why target the schools?
Is it just because that is where the agitated students are? Is it a matter of convenience instead of impact?
When I and my friends protested at our university against apartheid in the early 1980s we were asking/demanding that the university divest from companies doing business in South Africa. A specific action the university administration could carry out. That was why we targeted them.
Why are these protesters targeting these schools?
I am not arguing they do not have the right to protest, though they do not have the right to cause specific students to fear for their safety. My limited understanding of criminal law makes me think that is the basis of the crime of assault.
My question is their goals and strategy to achieve those goals.
muriel_volestrangler
(101,360 posts)so they also tend to see things they object to more. There are also calls for disinvestment from Israel (either companies with involvement in the occupied Territories, or any Israeli company), so it is quite similar to the South African protests you were involved in.
