New York appeals judge rejects Donald Trump's request to delay his April 15 hush money trial

NEW YORK (AP) — A New York appeals court judge on Monday rejected Donald Trump’s bid to delay his April 15 hush money criminal trial while he mounts a last-minute fight to move the case out of Manhattan, foiling the former president’s latest attempt to put off the historic trial.

Justice Lizbeth González of the state’s mid-level appeals court ruled after an emergency hearing Monday where Trump’s lawyers asked that she postpone the trial indefinitely while they seek a change of venue.

They contended the presumptive Republican nominee faces “real potential prejudice” in heavily Democratic Manhattan and said the jury pool has been polluted by news coverage of Trump’s other recent cases, including his $454 million civil fraud judgment and the $83.3 million he’s been ordered to pay for defaming writer E. Jean Carroll. He is appealing both verdicts.

“Jury selection cannot proceed in a fair manner,” Trump lawyer Emil Bove argued, citing the defense’s polling and a review of media coverage. Trump’s hush money trial is the first of his four criminal indictments slated to go to trial and would be the first criminal trial ever of a former president.

NEW YORK (AP) -- A New York appeals court judge on Monday rejected Donald Trump's bid to delay his April 15 hush money criminal trial while he fights to move the case out of Manhattan -- foiling the former president's latest attempt to put off the historic trial.

Justice Lizbeth Gonzlez of the state's mid-level appeals court made her ruling after an emergency hearing where Trump's lawyers asked to postpone the trial indefinitely while they seek a change of venue. Trump was seeking an emergency stay, a court order that would prevent the trial from starting on time.

The hush money trial is the first of Trump's his four criminal indictments slated to go to trial and would be the first criminal trial ever of a former president.

Trump lawyer Emil Bove argued that the presumptive Republican nominee faces "real potential prejudice" as a defendant in heavily Democratic Manhattan. Citing defense surveys and a review of media coverage, Bove argued that jury selection, scheduled to start next Monday, "cannot proceed in a fair manner." Trump has suggested on social media that the trial should be moved to Staten Island, the only New York City borough he won in 2016 and 2020.

he should have done his criming somewhere else. But NOoooo, his ego required that he be a pseudo mob boss in New York to show those people who looked down on him for decades just who the boss is.

His personality disorders and mental illnesses are the root cause of all his problems, but he's never been man enough to get the help he so obviously needed.

and now that a couple of judges have basically given his delay tactics the middle finger, you can expect other judges to start doing it as well.

Trump's lawyers will reject every candidate. You know the trial will last far too long, and immediately be appealed on every possible ground.

24. Having A High Number In A Jury Pool

was always a double edged sword. Yea, you had a good chance of the jury being fully selected before your number comes up. It also allows you to see what excuses (for not serving) fly with the judge. But as the selection process goes deeper in the pool, both lawyer's strikes (removal from the pool) become depleted and they become less selective. So if you have a high number and they get to you, there's a decent chance you'll be serving.

I don't see dragging out the jury selection being advantageous to tfg's case. He's just as likely running into someone objectionable at the end of the pool as at the beginning (and more likely to be out of strikes). A long selection process will probably annoy the hell out of the jury itself, which isn't a good thing to do to those who will decide your case.

More offensive is the contention of "bias" on tfg's part. Kind of hints that certain people are more worthy than others. But that's standard Republican practice at this point, isn't it?

Other than stalling for time, I mean? Were they hoping to get it moved to a redder part of New York state, to get a Trumpier jury? That's the only thing I can think of that could possibly help him.

Everybody except hard-core MAGA cultists knows what a big crook he is. Manhattan may have known it longer than the rest of the country, but it's common knowledge now!

Sorry, Donnie, nowadays it's not just Manhattanies who know you're a lying, criming pos!
