Former President Donald Trump told the dangerous lie that Democrats believe in “executing the baby after birth” as he made his hyped announcement of his position on abortion.

Trump has been promising a statement on abortion for quite some time, and made good on that promise Monday morning with a four-and-a-half-minute Truth Social video that leaned heavily into the well-worn and false attack on Democrats that they believe in legally “executing the baby” after it has been born.

Elsewhere, he bragged about ending Roe v. Wade and appeared to take the position that states should decide limits on abortion — while urging them to take measures that would still allow Republicans to win elections:

this goes back to st ronnie, when we found out that many doomed babies were left to die, sometimes in cold places, instead of being treated like the human beings they r. docs wanted to ‘spare’ the parents. ronnie made this about abortion, tho it isnt. there is now a fed law that such babies b cared for while they live.
