(CNN) - Angela Chao, CEO of shipping company Foremost Group and sister of former US cabinet secretary Elaine Chao, was intoxicated at the time of a fatal car accident, according to a 62-page incident report released by the Blanco County Sheriff's office.

The report details the night of Feb. 10, when her friends and first responders worked to save Chao after she drove a Tesla into a pond while leaving her Johnson City family ranch. ... Chao had been at the ranch with friends, according to the report. The group had dinner and drinks at the guest lodge. At around 11:30 p.m., everyone began returning to their bedrooms or going home.

A video of the exterior of the south side camera captures Chao at 11:37 p.m. walking "unsteadily to her vehicle while continuing to hold her cellular phone in her right hand," according to the report.

Chao is later seen entering her Tesla. The report stated that the camera then captured the car lurching toward a wooden barrier, reversing, turning to the left without stopping, and over the top of the limestone block wall. Afterward, the vehicle entered the water. A minute later, the vehicle's lights were no longer visible.

If it was a dinner party, there were several people who could have taken her keys and let her sleep it off.

At least she didn't kill anyone else.

A group of her friends had flown in and were staying at the guest house on her ranch.
About a quarter of a mile from the main house.

But she wanted to get back to the main house so she could be there when her young
son woke up the next morning.

theorizing the "confusing" forward/reverse controls likely caused her to drive into a pond. They were also claiming Tesla's doors are difficult to open when the car is submerged and she couldn't escape the sinking vehicle. All good theories I suppose, but it turns out Chao was drunk.

“Although the preliminary investigation indicated this was an unfortunate accident, the Sheriff’s Office is still investigating this accident as a criminal matter until they have sufficient evidence to rule out criminal activity,” the Blanco County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Thursday letter to state Attorney General Ken Paxton, according to CNBC. “This incident was not a typical accident,” the agency added.

Reportedly, Chao"s blood alcohol content was three times the legal limit. They've never said anything more about the "criminal" investigation. Her husband, a close friend of Elon Musk, said the Tesla's design was not a factor after people began theorizing the car's technology was to blame. Conspiracists will no doubt concoct some strange new theory.

Not murder.

Probably the only reason it got that type of publicity was because of who she was.

They may have been looking at possible domestic violence prior to the event.
They have been looking for drugs, etc.

She was drunk and trying to operate unfamiliar, unintuitive controls on the Tesla. Both were probably contributing factors to her fatal mistake.

NHTSA and NTSB are sleeping through what is an assault on the public. I haven't consented to be a guinea pig for Tesla. This is part of the whole privatize the profits while offloading the risks to the public.

But the simplest answer is most often the truth.
She had too much to drink, made a couple bad choices, and drowned.

Well, not quite the 6000th post I would have liked, but it is what it is.
It's a sad way to die.
