State of the Union guest charged for disrupting Biden's speech

The father of a U.S. Marine killed in the 2021 Kabul airport bombing was arrested for disrupting President Biden's State of the Union address on Thursday.

Why it matters: The disruption by Steve Nikoui as an invited guest of a member of Congress was an extremely rare break in decorum that punctuated a night filled with heckling from lawmakers.

The big picture: Nikoui is the father of Lance Cpl Kareem Nikoui and was a guest of Rep. Brian Mast (R-Fla.).

He yelled "Abbey Gate" and "United States Marines," a reference to the bombing in Afghanistan's capital, after Biden said "America is safer today than when I took office."

2. Let's point out that the House is lead by Speaker Johnson, so this arrest is on his watch. I say this to preempt the

inevitable blaming of Biden for the Sgt at Arms removing and police arresting Mr Nikoui. I have no doubt that Mr Nikoui came knowing he would react this way and, in spite of being warned, continued to disrupt. So, this arrest is totally on him. However, we all know that the GQP will cast this as negatively toward Biden as possible. Mast's initial comments already point in this direction. Personally, I hold Mast responsible for putting Mr Nikoui in this position. Why else would he invite this mourning father?

Sid Rosenberg, the host of the morning show on WABC in NYC shouted "Sez who?" when Joe Biden cited 3,000 dead Palestinians. He refused to leave voluntarily.

Guess he needed something to talk about on his show this morning.

17. Unusual for an arrest to be made. I expect charges will be dropped.

For example, Fred Guttenberg, father of one of the Parkland, Florida school shooting victims, was ejected from Trump's 2020 SOTU when he yelled out from the gallery in response to Trump's mention of the second amendment. But to the best of my knowledge, he wasn't arrested.
