American Samoa 2024 Democratic caucus results: Little-known candidate Jason Palmer beats Biden

Source: ABC News

President Joe Biden lost the Democratic presidential caucuses for American Samoa on Tuesday.

A little-known candidate, Jason Palmer, won over Biden, the local Democratic Party chair confirmed to ABC News.

With 99% of the expected vote reporting, Palmer leads with 56% of the vote, followed by Biden with 44%, though the overall vote total is tiny: less than 100 ballots.

A Biden campaign spokesperson brushed off Biden's first loss in the nominating race, saying in a statement to ABC News on Tuesday night: "There are unique politics on the island."

I'd ask for a recount. No way does a guy no one's ever heard of get 11 delegates.

I commend Mr Palmer for coming up with a great way to write off a vacation in paradise.

I didn't check. Bloomberg did buy some delegates there. Thanks for the correction!

There is no reason that Samoa gets 11 votes. Tiny Vermont gets 26 with over 60,000 democrats turning out today, Samoa gets nearly half that with less than 100 people turning out. They should get 1 vote. Even that is generous.

They've heard of him -- he campaigned there.

Delegates are split. He's not getting all 11.

Why are people freaking out about this? Biden wasn't going to fly 14,000 miles round-trip to campaign for 11 delegates.

A little perspective would be nice.

Very similar to what Bloomberg did there in 2020, i.e. set millions of dollars on fire just to get a pointless win to his name.

Bloomberg was a big-name candidate, and had a real chance before that abysmal debate performance. I still think him and Biden were the only two candidates that could have defeated Trump in 2020.
