People who test positive for Covid no longer need to isolate for five days, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday.
The CDCs new guidance now matches public health advice for flu and other respiratory illnesses: Stay home when youre sick, but return to school or work once youre feeling better and youve been without a fever for 24 hours.
The shift reflects sustained decreases in the most severe outcomes of Covid since the beginning of the pandemic, as well as a recognition that many people arent testing themselves for Covid anyway. Folks often dont know what virus they have when they first get sick, so this will help them know what to do, regardless, CDC director Dr. Mandy Cohen said during a media briefing Friday.
Over the past couple of years, weekly hospital admissions for Covid have fallen by more than 75%, and deaths have decreased by more than 90%, Cohen said.

(11,636 posts)I had a headache, stuffy nose, sore throat and mild body aches. Today most of my symptoms have subsided due to taking Paxlovid. I tire easily. I retested yesterday and still came up positive.

(5,070 posts)If I am in a small crowded indoor area like a plane, I wear a mask and still wipe down the carts in stores. If they don't have disinfectant sheets, I use my hand sanitizer that I always carry. I use it when I go into a store and when I leave a store. At my age I don't need to get sick if I can avoid it.
