Laura Lynch, a founding member of The Dixie Chicks, was killed in a head-on crash in El Paso, Texas, police said Saturday. She was 65.
Lynch was traveling eastbound on U.S. 62 when another car traveling in the opposite direction attempted to pass a vehicle on a two-way undivided portion of the highway, the Texas Department of Public Safety said. The crash occurred Friday around 5:45 p.m. local time.
The band, which changed its name in 2020 to The Chicks, said it was "shocked and saddened" by her death. "We hold a special place in our hearts for the time we spent playing music, laughing and traveling together," the band wrote in a statement.
"Laura was a bright light
her infectious energy and humor gave a spark to the early days of our band," it said. "Laura had a gift for design, a love of all things Texas and was instrumental in the early success of the band. Her undeniable talents helped propel us beyond busking on street corners to stages all across Texas and the mid-West."

(26,361 posts)Hell, I will even be driving on the interstate going between 70 to 74mph at most and will see packs of cars coming up behind me from 2 miles back and they will pass me fast enough to shake my car and that's almost daily.

And not just talking the 'jackass' moments and the extreme sports crowd. There's a whole ethos of, "go big, or go home' being preached and promoted (pretty much everywhere you look) out there.
Driving a vehicle like an entitled moron is just part of we're learning at daddy's knee these days ...

(27,863 posts)There seems to be a mentality that you absolutely can't be behind another car, even if it's going the speed limit. I hate being on I5 for that reason. No one will stay put in their lane, even when there is obvious reason why a car has to pass another one. And tailgating seems worse, too. SUVs and pickups are the worst offenders.

(23,389 posts)So damn many idiots get a car and think the road's theirs, too. F*** 'em.
I haven't heard if that other driver survived, but I hope he did long enough to realize the injury, pain and loss of life he caused, and to know that he's going to lose everything he and his family had or ever hoped to have--and then finds himself in the eternal company of his Satanic master.

The opposite is true as well - Trump is an example.

(4,220 posts)Before they "broke out" and gained immense popularity. Although she never gave a reason for leaving the band (it was a mutual decision)- The Chicks lead singer, Natalie Maines was the reason the group really surged in popularity. Maines had no love lost for Bush.
Lynch had little to do with the immense popularity and the ensuing controversies and never publicly spoke about it. in fact, this is what she said about Bush "I love our president. I really do," Tull said. "I think the world of him. I really revere our President Bush, and I revere the highest office in our country to the utmost. And that's who I am."
So I highly doubt that she was targeted for an accident- and it is surprising that she died in the crash- considering she was driving a Ford F150. But as reported- she did not have on a seat belt.
So, all in all, it looks like a horrible tragedy- but I don't see any sinister motives.
Just my opinion-

(4,220 posts)The last album she worked on with them was in 1993.
She was asked to leave the group.
She was not a liberal, and had positive things to say about GWB and socialized with other Texas conservatives.
She loved Texas and was a life long resident.
This was a horrible accident....

(4,220 posts)Lynch Hull (married name) was a lifelong Texas resident. She left the band in 1995- reason was not ever really disclosed- but many people believe it had a lot to do with a new direction the band was/wanted to take.
She was a fan of GW Bush and also socialized with some Republican politicians. Now her political views were never publicly discussed......but if the shoe fits....
Also she didn't really want to leave the band....it was a "mutual decision" but later Lynch Hull said she was "replaced"
Also- she drove a Ford F150- about as Texan a vehicle as you can get.
