Tucker Carlson leaves Fox News in wake of Dominion defamation settlement
Source: CNBC
Right wing primetime host Tucker Carlson is leaving Fox News immediately, the cable network announced Monday.
The announcement came days after Fox News' parent company settled Dominion Voting Systems' defamation lawsuit for $787.5 million.
"FOX News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways," the company said in a statement on Monday. "We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor."
There will be no sendoff for Carlson, as his last program aired on Friday.
The company wouldn't comment beyond the release, and whether Carlson was being taken off air in response to the Dominion defamation case.
Fox class A shares were down nearly 4% on Monday.

TV host Tucker Carlson and Fox News have "agreed to part ways," Fox said in a statement Monday.
The news comes nearly one week after the $787.5 million settlement agreement between Fox and Dominion Voting Systems. Dominion's suit had accused Fox News of recklessly airing false election claims and conspiracy theories in the wake of the 2020 presidential election.

CNN Fox News and Tucker Carlson, the right-wing extremist who hosted the networks highly rated 8pm hour, have severed ties, the network said in a stunning announcement Monday.
The announcement came one week after Fox News settled a monster defamation lawsuit with Dominion Voting Systems for $787.5 million over the networks dissemination of election lies.
Fox News said that Carlsons last show was Friday, April 21.
Carlson did not immediately respond to a request for comment on his departure.

Fox News is parting ways with conservative firebrand Tucker Carlson, one of the network's most popular prime-time anchors.
The network announced the stunning news in a statement Monday morning, days after parent company Fox Corp. agreed to pay nearly $800 million to Dominion Voting Systems to avert a high-stakes defamation trial.
"FOX News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways," the company said in the news release. "Mr. Carlson's last program was Friday April 21st."
Fox News did not specify why Carlson is leaving the network, and a spokeswoman did not immediately respond to an email from NBC News.

NEW YORK (AP) Fox News said Monday it has agreed to part ways with Tucker Carlson, its popular and controversial host, less than a week after settling a lawsuit over the networks 2020 election reporting. The network said in a press release that the last program of Tucker Carlson Tonight aired Friday.
We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor, the press release from the network said.
Carlson became Foxs most popular personality after replacing Bill OReilly in Foxs prime-time lineup in 2016. Hes also consistently drawn headline for controversial coverage, including most recently airing tapes from the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection to minimize the impact of the deadly attack.
There was no immediate explanation from Fox about why Carlson was leaving. His name came up during the recently settled case with Dominion Voting Systems, primarily because of email and text messages that were revealed as part of the lawsuit. In some of them, Carlson privately criticized former President Donald Trump, saying he hated him passionately.

Fox News and Tucker Carlson part ways after Fox settles Dominion lawsuit
Reuters
April 24 (Reuters) - Fox News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways, the media company said in a statement on Monday, less than a week after Fox News and parent company Fox Corp (FOXA.O) settled a defamation lawsuit by Dominion Voting Systems for $787.5 million.
The settlement averted a trial putting one of the world's top media companies in the crosshairs over its coverage of false vote-rigging claims in the 2020 U.S. election.
Carlson had been expected to testify in the Dominion trial. Dominion had alleged that statements made on Carlsons show after the 2020 election were defamatory and that messages between Carlson and his team were proof that he and his team knew the falsehood of claims that Denver-based Dominion's ballot-counting machines were used to manipulate the election in favor of Democrat Joe Biden.
Carlsons last program was April 21, the company said in a statement. It said that "Fox News Tonight" will air live at 8 p.m. EST starting this evening as an interim show helmed by rotating Fox News personalities until a new host is named.

Mr. Carlson has been one of the network's top-rated hosts for many years.
By Jeremy W. Peters
April 24, 2023, 11:41 a.m. ET
Fox News said Monday that it was parting ways with Tucker Carlson, its most popular prime time host who was also the source of repeated controversies and headaches for the network because of his statements on everything from race relations to L.G.B.T.Q. rights.
The network made the announcement less than a week after it agreed to pay $787.5 million in a defamation lawsuit in which Mr. Carlsons show, one of the highest rated on Fox, figured prominently for its role in spreading misinformation after the 2020 election.
In making its announcement, Fox offered a terse statement of gratitude. Fox News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways. We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor, it said.
His last program was on Friday, Fox said.

The bombastic conservative was the networks most-watched prime-time host. Private communications made public in a recent lawsuit revealed his sharp criticism of Fox management.

In a shocking announcement on Monday morning, the Fox News Channel announced that prime-time host Tucker Carlson is leaving the network. Fox News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways, the network said in a statement. "We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor. "
The announcement came less than a week after Fox News settled a defamation lawsuit brought by Dominion Voting Systems, which had sued the network for false claims about the 2020 election, for $787.5 million hours before opening arguments were to begin. Carlson was among several on-air personalities expected to testify.
Many of Carlsons private messages were released in motions filed by Dominion, revealing that the host was skeptical of many of the election-fraud claims made on-air by Trump-affiliated attorneys Sidney Powell and Rudy Giuliani.
But it was Carlsons comments about Fox management, as revealed in the Dominion case, that played a role in his departure from Fox, a person familiar with the companys thinking told The Post.

(20,254 posts)as long as it lined their pockets. Tucker is an ass, but he should have been reined in a long time ago. Rupert didn't care as long as he had good ratings. Tucker, in this case, is a scapegoat. Unless they had some kind of previous disciplinary action, I wouldn't be surprised if he sues them. He was just doing what he's always done.
bronxiteforever
(9,287 posts)called him on DU. I think of him as a Putin puppet who supports mass rape and the destruction of families and all the innocent civilians in Ukraine. He is odious.
Fox is a business that allows investment into their company. They almost paid one billion dollars in a suit by one company and there is another one on the horizon with Smartech. They are suing for over 2 billion. Companies are always happy to profit and historically many look away at unethical and illegal practices. I think Fox may have a stockholder suit filed against them which would blow up the company. Mess around with stock dividends in the USA and that is considered more serious than providing healthcare to all Americans. This should be interesting as Carlson will sue but I believe they are in the big muddy.
