Tucker Carlson leaves Fox News in wake of Dominion defamation settlement

Source: CNBC

Right wing primetime host Tucker Carlson is leaving Fox News immediately, the cable network announced Monday.

The announcement came days after Fox News' parent company settled Dominion Voting Systems' defamation lawsuit for $787.5 million.

"FOX News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways," the company said in a statement on Monday. "We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor."

There will be no sendoff for Carlson, as his last program aired on Friday.

The company wouldn't comment beyond the release, and whether Carlson was being taken off air in response to the Dominion defamation case.

Fox class A shares were down nearly 4% on Monday.

Tucker Carlson fired:

✔️CNN in 2005.
✔️MSNBC in 2008.
✔️FOX IN 2023.

In less than 20 years as a cable news host he's hit the trifecta! I don't think any other talking head out there has this claim to fame on their resume.

Tucker Carlson out at Fox News

"We thank him for his service to the network," Fox said.

TV host Tucker Carlson and Fox News have "agreed to part ways," Fox said in a statement Monday.

The news comes nearly one week after the $787.5 million settlement agreement between Fox and Dominion Voting Systems. Dominion's suit had accused Fox News of recklessly airing false election claims and conspiracy theories in the wake of the 2020 presidential election.

Tucker Carlson out at Fox News

CNN — Fox News and Tucker Carlson, the right-wing extremist who hosted the network’s highly rated 8pm hour, have severed ties, the network said in a stunning announcement Monday.

The announcement came one week after Fox News settled a monster defamation lawsuit with Dominion Voting Systems for $787.5 million over the network’s dissemination of election lies.

Fox News said that Carlson’s last show was Friday, April 21.

Carlson did not immediately respond to a request for comment on his departure.

Tucker Carlson and Fox News part ways
The conservative firebrand was one of the most popular anchors on the network.

By Daniel Arkin and Jason Abbruzzese

Fox News is parting ways with conservative firebrand Tucker Carlson, one of the network's most popular prime-time anchors.

The network announced the stunning news in a statement Monday morning, days after parent company Fox Corp. agreed to pay nearly $800 million to Dominion Voting Systems to avert a high-stakes defamation trial.

"FOX News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways," the company said in the news release. "Mr. Carlson's last program was Friday April 21st."

Fox News did not specify why Carlson is leaving the network, and a spokeswoman did not immediately respond to an email from NBC News.

Tucker Carlson out at Fox News, network confirms

By DAVID BAUDER5 minutes ago

NEW YORK (AP) — Fox News said Monday it has “agreed to part ways” with Tucker Carlson, its popular and controversial host, less than a week after settling a lawsuit over the network’s 2020 election reporting. The network said in a press release that the last program of “Tucker Carlson Tonight” aired Friday.

“We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor,” the press release from the network said.

Carlson became Fox’s most popular personality after replacing Bill O’Reilly in Fox’s prime-time lineup in 2016. He’s also consistently drawn headline for controversial coverage, including most recently airing tapes from the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection to minimize the impact of the deadly attack.

There was no immediate explanation from Fox about why Carlson was leaving. His name came up during the recently settled case with Dominion Voting Systems, primarily because of email and text messages that were revealed as part of the lawsuit. In some of them, Carlson privately criticized former President Donald Trump, saying he hated him passionately.

Fox News and Tucker Carlson part ways after Fox settles Dominion lawsuit

Reuters

April 24 (Reuters) - Fox News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways, the media company said in a statement on Monday, less than a week after Fox News and parent company Fox Corp (FOXA.O) settled a defamation lawsuit by Dominion Voting Systems for $787.5 million.

The settlement averted a trial putting one of the world's top media companies in the crosshairs over its coverage of false vote-rigging claims in the 2020 U.S. election.

Carlson had been expected to testify in the Dominion trial. Dominion had alleged that statements made on Carlson’s show after the 2020 election were defamatory and that messages between Carlson and his team were proof that he and his team knew the falsehood of claims that Denver-based Dominion's ballot-counting machines were used to manipulate the election in favor of Democrat Joe Biden.

Carlson’s last program was April 21, the company said in a statement. It said that "Fox News Tonight" will air live at 8 p.m. EST starting this evening as an interim show helmed by rotating Fox News personalities until a new host is named.

Tucker Carlson Is Leaving Fox News

Mr. Carlson has been one of the network's top-rated hosts for many years.

By Jeremy W. Peters
April 24, 2023, 11:41 a.m. ET

Fox News said Monday that it was parting ways with Tucker Carlson, its most popular prime time host who was also the source of repeated controversies and headaches for the network because of his statements on everything from race relations to L.G.B.T.Q. rights.

The network made the announcement less than a week after it agreed to pay $787.5 million in a defamation lawsuit in which Mr. Carlson’s show, one of the highest rated on Fox, figured prominently for its role in spreading misinformation after the 2020 election.

In making its announcement, Fox offered a terse statement of gratitude. “Fox News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways. We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor,” it said.

His last program was on Friday, Fox said.

Tucker Carlson leaves Fox News after lawsuit disclosures
The bombastic conservative was the network’s most-watched prime-time host. Private communications made public in a recent lawsuit revealed his sharp criticism of Fox management.

By Jeremy Barr
Updated April 24, 2023 at 12:05 p.m. EDT|Published April 24, 2023 at 11:39 a.m. EDT

In a shocking announcement on Monday morning, the Fox News Channel announced that prime-time host Tucker Carlson is leaving the network. “Fox News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways,” the network said in a statement. "We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor. "

The announcement came less than a week after Fox News settled a defamation lawsuit brought by Dominion Voting Systems, which had sued the network for false claims about the 2020 election, for $787.5 million hours before opening arguments were to begin. Carlson was among several on-air personalities expected to testify.

Many of Carlson’s private messages were released in motions filed by Dominion, revealing that the host was skeptical of many of the election-fraud claims made on-air by Trump-affiliated attorneys Sidney Powell and Rudy Giuliani.

But it was Carlson’s comments about Fox management, as revealed in the Dominion case, that played a role in his departure from Fox, a person familiar with the company’s thinking told The Post.

Fox is a business that allows investment into their company. They almost paid one billion dollars in a suit by one company and there is another one on the horizon with Smartech. They are suing for over 2 billion. Companies are always happy to profit and historically many look away at unethical and illegal practices. I think Fox may have a stockholder suit filed against them which would blow up the company. Mess around with stock dividends in the USA and that is considered more serious than providing healthcare to all Americans. This should be interesting as Carlson will sue but I believe they are in the big muddy.

They are talking a huge hit.

But then they rolled the dice in 2020 and decided to go "all in", and didn't let up, and still haven't really let up, until this crack in their armor.

When Hannity goes, then that is when you know they are serious about "starting over". I expect Hannity has an almost bullet-proof contract though. I had noticed that the past year, he has faded to the background while Carlson became the "front man" for Faux.

Published April 24, 2023

NEW YORK — April 24, 2023 — FOX News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways. We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor.

Mr. Carlson’s last program was Friday April 21st. Fox News Tonight will air live at 8 PM/ET starting this evening as an interim show helmed by rotating FOX News personalities until a new host is named.

FOX News Media operates the FOX News Channel (FNC), FOX Business Network (FBN), FOX News Digital, FOX News Audio, FOX News Books, the direct-to-consumer streaming services FOX Nation and FOX News International and the free ad-supported television service FOX Weather. Currently the number one network in all of cable, FNC has also been the most watched television news channel for more than 21 consecutive years, while FBN ranks among the top business channels on cable. Owned by Fox Corporation, FOX News Media reaches nearly 200 million people each month.

Why is it when evil is running amok and something kinda sorta gets done about it, the murderous maniac in the sky gets the credit for the kinda sorta good thing, but none of the blame for all the bad that was going on before it?

No, sacking TV Dinner doesn't prove anything about a maniac in the sky. All it shows is that Murdoch is on a wobbler about the Dominion suit, and how he can't seem to shake Smartmatic wanting their own piece of the pie.

He'll get over it, eventually.

I have no comment on CNN, but he'd be as out of place at MSNBC as a nazi in a syngogue.

I know he had a show there once upon a time. The name escapes me at the moment, but I'll never forget it, because the first time I ever laid eyes on Rachel Maddow was when she appeared as a panelist on that show. But after all the disgusting crap he's spewed since then, there's NO WAY IN HELL that network would ever have him back.

I'm pretty sure they have a "no shit gibbons need apply" policy, written or unwritten.

Roger Ailes, Bill O'Rielly, Dan Bongino, and now Tucker. Look to see if Laura Ingraham,
Sean Hannity, and Judge Jeanie will get shown the door too.

My theory is that the network is dialing back on its extremist rhetoric.

What better way to do that than to remove the most right wing radical that sits at its very highest setting, Tucker Clansman.

Hannity, Kilmeade, and Ingraham might be on the chopping block.

If it were up to me, I would pull Fox News Network's plug.

“Tucker Carlson leaves Fox News in wake of Dominion defamation settlement”

I’d suggest it’s perhaps driven more by the revelations from the audio recordings and texts, of Carlson’s derision of Trump and, therefore, his supporters. Many Faux News hosts echoed The Big Lie, but Carlson seemed the most exposed in regards to his views on Trump.

Even though Fox doesn't seem to be solidly behind Trump any longer, I imagine they still want to avoid pissing him off too much, because his fans make up such a large percentage of their viewership.

I'm picturing Trump on the phone to Fox, complaining about one of their major personalities being a Trump hater, and Rupert deciding that Tucks is too much of a liability!

His deposition and the texts and emails from his phone provided a lot of the damaging information Dominion used in its lawsuit. If not for the Carlson related material, Dominion might not have had nearly as strong a case imo.

It's the Carlson quotes from Dominion's legal filings that are being constantly used by the other cable and news outlets in their programming.

So, I apologize if someone has mentioned this already.

But, isn't this the guy who was recorded as saying how much he hated Trump? This guy could have been dumped at Trump's demand, as Trump will get even with you no matter what, and Murdach probably listens.

It also could be that he is a sacrificial lamb, in advance of the next lawsuit. Fox doesn't lose much, because his views are irreversibly known, and he is now a disgruntled employee. We don't even know if he's really fired, or just protected from his own words.
