In a an interview with Katy Tur, the Michigan SOS said every county has certified their vote. There is no legal means to change a county's vote. Michigan is a done deal. Nothing to worry about there.

(7,012 posts)We have all seen and experience some real insane shit over the past four years. Things that none of us could have ever predicted and things we thought we would never see in this country.
I, like you, am going to wait until it is over.

(613 posts)The State Board of Canvassers still have to meet and certify. Republicans there may vote NO.

(880 posts)Trumpo has invited REPUBLICAN Michigan lawmakers to the white house on Friday. He is trying to get them to appoint electors. I knew this asshole was going to try this. If they do this, and he somehow flips this election, there is going to be absolute chaos that this country has not seen since 1861.
johnnyfins
(880 posts)He is STEALING this election before our eyes.

(613 posts)This state board also has GOP canvassers. You are taking a big chance here. If those GOP canvassers go rogue (do you believe in GOP integrity?), this is a possibility. If someone can throw me some legal basis for why this cannot happen, I would feel good. And, so do many DUers. Can State Canvass GOPers vote NO?

(880 posts)He wants the Michigan Senate to appoint their own slate of electors. Thats the ONLY reason to have them to the white house. I'm sure he has some dirt on one or many. Not to mention the wink and nod rewards that he'll promise. In short: C-O-U-P

(613 posts)This assumption that we are the beacon of democracy and all that stuff have given them a false sense of security. The top man in the country and the Attorney General can do a lot of damage to democracy. I am with you johnnyfins. I am going to tweet the media.

(880 posts)If he doesn't get what he wants from them, he will meltdown. If there is silence after the meeting. The COUP is happening. Fucking trash.
Now we know why there is an extra fence around the white house.
Drunken Irishman
(34,857 posts)They legally are not allowed to appoint any electors - theirs or otherwise.
This meeting will result in absolutely nothing. The only people who think it'll move anything are those who are naive to the actual state law or Trump MAGA supporters who are so down the rabbit hole they think he won the election by a landslide.

(6,655 posts)I remember that the Republican legislature in at least two states wrote a bunch of stuff when the voters elected a Dem governor. They sought to impede the Dem from governing.
What is there to stop them from changing their law?

(34,857 posts)The media isn't sleeping. They're just not going to report on every absurd, ridiculous conspiracy thrown out there by the left and the right.
The legislature has NO GROUNDS to appoint their own electors. It's NOT possible under Michigan State Law.
IT LITERALLY CANNOT HAPPEN.
catbyte
(34,645 posts)I don't know what they hope to gain by pulling this stunt. Michigan law is clear:
The Electoral College is comprised of 538 people, known as electors, chosen nationwide to meet in their home states and cast one vote per person for president and vice president. Michigan has 16 electors to reflect the number of senators and representatives it has in the U.S. Congress. Presidential candidates on the Michigan ballot submit a list of 16 qualified electors to the Secretary of State's Office. The 16 electors whose candidate wins Michigan's popular vote will participate in the Electoral College at the State Capitol in December.
Electors pledge to support the candidate they represent and may not vote otherwise. Michigan voters can be assured that all 16 Michigan electoral votes automatically go to the presidential candidate winning the popular vote.

(880 posts)Proving a "failed election" is quite a hurdle, but the word "can't" doesn't seem to apply to today's GOP. Just sayin
