Cruz: Trump should nominate a Supreme Court justice next week

Source: The Hill

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said President Trump should nominate a Supreme Court justice to replace the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the high court next week.

"We have a responsibility to do our job," Cruz told Fox News's Sean Hannity on Friday evening. "We cannot let Election Day come and go and with a 4-4 court ... we risk a constitutional crisis. I believe that the president next week should nominate a successor to the court ... and I think that it is critical that the Senate takes up and confirms that successor."

Cruz added that there would be "enormous pressure from the media" and Democrats to delay filling the vacancies Ginsburg's death has created, but said "this nomination is why Donald Trump was elected and this confirmation is why the voters voted for a Republican majority in the Senate."

* * *

Cruz, a graduate of Harvard Law School and one of Trump's staunchest allies on Capitol Hill, was on a short list of candidates Trump released last week as potential Supreme Court justices.

""We cannot let Election Day come and go and with a 4-4 court." Why not? The last presidential election happened just fine with a 4-4 court. What do they think is going to happen this time around?

I guess they think that Donald Trump is going to take this election to the Supreme Court.

It will probably raise some $$ on act Blue.

They can go for the power play, but our culture values fairness. We may disagree on what is fair, but we value it. McConnell's move is unfair in the eyes of a lot of people.

Let's capitalize on the GOP's disregard for our collective values.

17. On Friday morning, Joe Scarborough on MSNBC asked a rhetorical question:
Sat Sep 19, 2020, 05:51 AM
Sep 2020

"Why did Bill Barr take the job of A.G.? What's in it for him?"

He could not find a logical reason why Barr would come back to a political job
when he had been making lots of money in the private sector.

A few hours later, the answer becomes obvious:

Trump has promised Barr a seat on the SCOTUS. This would explain everything,
including the recent smoke screen interview given by Barr to change the subject
from "those disgusting people" Trump complained about.

If Trump gets elected, Barr gets a plumb job with an incredible amount of power.

They are shameless enough to try and ram this down our throats, but there is
no way Mitch McConnell can do this with any credibility after what he did to Garland.

I would hope that the confirmation process would make it impossible to fill the seat
before Nov 3rd.

I'd never thought about Barr and the Supreme Court, but DAMN, that angle makes a ton of sense.

And Moscow Mitch is slimy enough to cram it down our throats within a week.

So that Biden's win is so big we can avoid the supreme court having to rule on the election. And Dems should take the majority in the Senate so we can fix this.
